Marc, you didn't mention the ConFerr tank before. If you flip the springs front to back or put other springs on, you definitely wont be able to use the tank. If the truck's gonna be a trailer queen, you really don't need the extra fuel. I like my ConFerr tank a LOT, and I use it a LOT, so I plan my projects around it.

IMO, if you're committed to the tank, you should install it first, and evaluate the effects of a full tank on your suspension issues. Perhaps the weight will be sufficient to compress the spring upwards, which will also move the tire away from the front of the wheelwell.

in your first pic there appears to be a white sticker on the end of the spring.

did it say *MADE IN CANADA*????

if so good luck getting it to do anything you want to. After 3 years on the rig I pulled the bottom 2 leaves (only 3 leafs on the rear springs now), installed a hardtop, and it STILL rides like utter crap.

I don't know where Man-a-free gets their springs, but if I'm right about the sticker, they're probably the same springs i have.
and yes, the shackles are almost vertical

Yes.

Crap.... :crybaby:

I hate the tank under the seat. It's got to be one of the all time dumb ideas. Plus mine leaks at the filler-neck-to-tank joint. Just plain hate the idea of a fuel tank "inside" the rig. Dumb. Thought about a plastic tank or an actual fuel cell...

And yes you're right the fuel tank issue will completely change the axle location thinking.

How about putting your spare tire and carrier back on. That would add anothe 60 to 70 lbs in the rear. From the looks of the pic your going downhill which throws even more weight to the front and less in the back. It looks like there is no weight in the rear. Try it again with a couple friends in the back. I bet you will have different results.

Yes I was going downhill. Trust me, uphill is NOT better. Eventually it will get a rear tire / cooler / Hi-Lift carrier / bumper so the weight idea will be better. Plus other stuff in the rear.

**DING**

Idea... how about I drive with and park with several cement bags in the back... They weight 90 pounds each and are pretty cheap and compact...

That night soften them a little...

I put four 70# bags of tube sand in mine. Cement is OK, but what do you do with it when the springs are broken in? If it sits around very long it draws moisture and sets hard. Sand you can use anywhere.
Woody suggested using a pair of car ramps on opposite corners when you park it.

Ed

EDIT: whoops! you are in Arizona. Cement probably lasts forever there. Buy whatever is cheaper.

I love the under the seat tank, no worries about ever poking a hole in it with a rock like so many jeep and toy-pickup guys worry about.

The under seat tank is fine. Just resovle any old rubber leaking situations and clean out from under it. Rust proof it, too.

If you have the Con-Fer tank installed and operational, fill it with gas. That sucka weighs a lot full of fuel. The weight will equal quite a few sand bags.

I apologize for suggesting this with gas prices what they are today. :D

[22 gal x $3.00 = $66.00 ]
