I was informed by a LEO in a pissant town in KS this past week that my license plate light wasn't working.

Fortunately, I wasn't speeding or anything else, so I didn't get a ticket for anything, just wasting my time near the end of a 15+ hour workday.

Anyway, I replaced both bulbs in the rear and they had indeed been blown.

However, when I put in the new ones, neither would light up.
I started tracking the harness and realized it's probably near the harness coming out the bottom of the tailgate because I recently removed, blasted and painted my hitch, then I power washed up underneath the rear of the truck, so I disturbed about everything under there.

So, I pulled the harness out to reach the plug and I could see the green oxidation coming out of the plug. When I separated it, it pulled one pin of the plug with it. Now I need to replace the male and female sides of the plug and I want to find near originals.

However, I cannot find the thread for listing all the plug, part numbers and sources. I'm sure it's my search-fu, as I just can't get the words I want to match up.

Can anyone point me the right direction? I could not locate any part numbers on the plug.

You should be able to find that plug in the EWD. Then cross reference it in the wire harness repair PDF.

Quick check on Ourisman says it's discontinued. All of these P/N.
Can't seem to find them on Ballenger Motorsports either. Might have to go aftermarket for the licence plate lamps. I promise not to tell.

I have another tailgate (female) side of the harness I can use, but I may have to get a male end from a used harness and patch it in.
Interesting that it's NOT a waterproof plug, but it's under the rear bumper, exposed to all the road crap that may come that way.

Time to start searching the salvage options.

Thanks Jon!

Even if the connector was available I would just replace it with a Weatherpack/Metripack/whateveryouwannacallit connector. The crimper and associated bits are good to have around anyway.

Never heard of these.

So, I cut off the wires I have and use these to add the fitting (crimp) and then insert them into the housing? Both M & F and I'm good to go?
Weatherpack Kit AMZ

Yep. And yes, those would work. There are all different styles. And of course there’s the “real” ones (used by OEMS) and Amazon brand ones.

This is the style crimper I have used for many years:

Is there a quality difference in The Delphi brand?
Decent place to purchase?

The Amazon stuff is fine and will get the job done. My complaint is that with some styles the pins are tricky to get inserted correctly. Causes cussing. The Delfi stuff is just made better.

This is a great place to order higher quality components from:
