I bought a 1993 toyota truck, and have been having a problem with the rear axles, brakes? i am not sure. when I come to a stop something binds up and the vehicle doesn't want to move again. If I back up it lets loose. The PO said that he replaced one of the rear wheel cylinders because it was leaking brake fluid. Does anyone know what could be wrong, and is it most likely the brakes, or can the rear bearings make this happen. the vehicle seems to run well otherwise, it just happens when you come to a stop.

I don't know how the e brake is set up on a 93.
do you use the parking brake a lot?
if it has the lever with the cable going to that, smack it with a hammer and don't use the parking brake and see if it go's away.
sounds like the parking brake is sticking or you have oil on the brake shoes and they are sticking.

I could go into detail. but don't feel like it right now. let me know if you want more information.

You need to pull it apart and look for something that's not right. Something that's leaking, not hooked up right, held together with duct tape, etc. All we can do is guess.

Get ahold of the FSM, it has a diagram of how all the linkages are supposed to be installed, maybe something's not in there correctly.

These brakes adjust by using the e-brake, not by backing up (I think that's a GM thing). Make sure the e-brake bellcranks can pivot freely in the backing plate.

I just pulled the brakes apart and replaced the pads. Everything in there was where it was supposed to be, but there was a lot of crap in the rotors. It still seems like it is still doing it, but I will have to drive it more to see.

Rotors? Do you not have drum brakes in the rear?

By the way, is this on the truck you are selling?

they are drums. I didn't realize that i had put rotors.

It is on the vehicle that I am selling. I am trying to get it fixed before we sell it so that the new owner doesn't have to deal with it. Could it be the master cylinder sticking, but if so why would it feel like it is coming from the back?

Not sure what you mean by "crap" but you may want to completely remove all of the old fluid and replace with new.

As well, did you lubricate all of the moving parts in the drum assembly? Drum brakes require a lot more attention than disc brakes. Also, did you lubricate the parking brake mechanics?
