Rear Heater Version Questions

In trying to figure out what exactly came in a January 1978 FJ40, the research has turned into a whole list of rear heaters.

1. Lips, Two feet.
2. Lips, Four feet.
3. No lips, Two feet.
4. Small lid, two feet.
5. Console.

Then of course, the late model (79-80) just prior to console heater "small lid":

I'm going to say large lid that has a lip with two feet. Four feet is a FJ55. Can see the lip on the small lid 79/80. Which would make sense the later large lid would have a lip.

Interesting thread. I’ve been slowly searching for a period-correct rear heater for my ‘77 and have come up with a couple of different ones as well.

Living in the Past - excellent point. I assumed as much as well. The mangled "no lip two feet" came from my 78 '40, but likely not original to the rig. I concur with your logic. From what I can tell (internet never lies) any "very original" FJ40 also agrees with your logic, so far as I can tell/find.
