I’m having a ‘21 LC built (standard model not HE) and chose not to have the rear entertainment system installed. But now I’m having regrets. I know the HE doesn’t come with rear entertainment, but I wonder how many standard models come with it vs not? Can it be dealer installed or is it a factory install only? Thanks

Why would you want an outdated entertainment system?

Get an iPad. Cheaper. More future proof. More practical.

On long trips, I mount my iPad:

I don’t think you’ll miss it. I’ve taken my screens out because they interfere with rear-facing car seats. I did re-install for a road trip but took them out again when we were home.

iPads work just as well, are less expensive to replace, and are portable.

Agreed. Skip the rear entertainment. Use the money saved to by some better tires than the crappy Dunlops it comes with from the factory.

I hate it when my kids spend time on devices in the car missing the amazing world going by around them.

If you have to have them, having screens built-in locks you into the technology of the era the vehicle is manufactured. At least with portable devices that are not coupled to the rig, your entertainment is separate and can be upgraded on a different cycle (i.e. without having to upgrade your vehicle).

I have them on my 2016 LC and when going to DisneyLand we finally used them. We got the boys "Switch" on them, but THEY complained about the poor video quality (Non HD) at the next stop I took a look and was surprised in the poor image as well. So for the price I would get 2 ipads... what are they $329 each???? no brainer!!

The kids have iPads and iPhones, which they use to miss out on all of the incredible scenery. So, for us, there's no need for the rear seat entertainment to further distract them and also fight over.

it is so dated, not worth it

Purposely got my 18 with out them, no regrets. If my kids were in pre-school or elementary ok maybe good for the short term but middle school or above way better to not waste your money.

Many on this forum have literally PAID a member/vendor here to create and sell them screen-delete inserts because they hated those screens so much.

My suggestion... Save a TON of money and pick up a couple inexpensive iPads. You’ll save THOUSANDS and you’ll have a wildly superior entertainment value besides.

My kids are 5 and 3 and we use them for all our long trips. Idk what we'd do without them. They have tablets, but the RES is better for us. Ours is a 2011 though so just the center fold down screen and no space lost. If we were getting a newer one it would be a hard pass because of where they are now mounted and how much space they take up.

I think one point that is being missed is resale. I would not have bought the LX without them. It was A-1 or A-2 on my wife's list.
