For at least two years now, as I take off from a full stop, after going a few hundred feet, I get a loud metallic pop in the driveline in the rear. I've checked out the U-joints, and even though they've got 200k on them, they're nice and tight.
Just lately I've been hearing a grinding or scraping sound back there, and the pop still happens.
Everything's good and greased, and always has been.
What's going on? Is my pinion gear missing a tooth? Could the bearing bind and pop like that?
Don't know much about gears, and I can't spend too much on this rusty thing. But I want it to keep running, so I can get to the parts store when I've got my 60 pulled apart.
Any help appreciated.
