Jim,

When I saw your comments on my bumper build it didn't occur to me that this thread is yours.

All the while I've been sweating over my bumper I've been admiring your project and wishing I could weld as well as you. :)

Your swing-out is absolutely bad.

Keep up the good work man.

hey chris,

i just got back in, when you left i took an hour break for dinner.
i actually built a set of 40 rocker bolt ons for AKcruiser, drilled and plated for the latch hook, capped the back side of the right end and welded up the "adjusted" swing arm ;)
still need to put the side plates on.
i'd have to say today was very productive...thanx for coming down today.
sandblasting and painting next weekend :D :bounce: :bounce2: :bounce: :bounce2:

MTN GOAT, thanx for thanx for the compliment
i'm gonna have to see about incorporating the hitch after seeing your.
i've been a bit leary about it and taking responsability for someone loosing something they are towing

Sounds great Jim! :)

We didn't talk about the license plate mount and light. I'd like to buy the one you have and go with that, you know the one. ;)
Under the spare?

Hi-lift - can you angle it so the top mounts close to the spare?

Before closing in the very top please add about an inch flange on each side. Future mounts for light/antenna/whatever!

Thanks again! looking great!

PIECE OF CAKE :D

Okay, I did get a pic which will be the last until the finished product. This isn't the best photo but it does show more than previous ones.

Thanks Jim!

couple pics from last night
just a corner piece added to wrap around a bit.
9x5x1/4" relief cut to make the angles
welds filled in to level out the ends(they use to tapper down just a tad on the end)
took a new shape at the bottom.
side of the bumper is noe 1/2" thick. :D
i'll try to get some contour where the end of the bumper and the side piece come together.

So what are you using as a spindle?...

the mighty, mighty SLEE OFF ROAD spindle.
it's massive, uses upper and lower bearings and IMHO is the best to use for holding ALOT of weight. :D

How much was it, I was just going to use the rock stomper one on my next rig.

i'm not sure al, chris bought it and brought it to me after we looked around at other spindles and latches.
if i had to guess, i think spindle and latches were around $120.ish

maybe chris knows ;)

Aloha Jim-

Any update on your progress?

Mahalo,
Chris

well let me just say this :frown: no

i got side tracked this week by thinking i had to get the front 40 axle out, so i'd been doin that.
i'll be back on it tomorrow.

when do you get back? :D

Sooooooooooooooooo close!!!!!!!!!!

update....the year, 2011. almost done :D
alot more work than i imagined ;)
been pullin a couple very late nights the last three dayz.
not only on the bumper, but other projects also........anyway ;)

the swing arm has some stops/twist supports, whatever you want to call them.
anti-rattle pads are all drilled and finished (no mounted pics, weld on the nuts were still to hot)
fabbed up a lic. plate mount. it's good to have freinds working at toyota, he hooked me up on a 4runner lic plate lamp (BLING)
let me borrow the mounting plate so i could make a template ;)

so we are almost there.

enjoy!
