Hello,

So my wifes 1998 LC had the brake light on the dash come on, the one that is usually for the E-brake handle. I did a bit of research and then checked the brake fluid reservoir which low and added fluid back. The light went off and worked for a few days and came back on. Then I noticed fluid on the ground near back of the LC. Anyways, I found that the brake line (hard line) that runs over the back differential on the passenger side has a small hole in it, there is also a loose bracket that was lying on it (looks like a bolt must have come out at some point that was holding it) and I assume it was caused the spot to erode the line and start leaking. So I talked to the dealership and they are booked until next week. We have other vehicles to drive right now so its not super urgent. I was wondering if I should wait and take it to the dealership and have them fix it. Or if using any "brake shop" or regular shop would be okay? Also do I run any risk of messing up the brake system if it continues to leak while not driving, maybe keep topping it off until I can get it checked out/fixed?

Any advice appreciated

Thank you

you're either going to have to replace the line or splice in a new section of line. the lines are typically available from Toyota and are not very expensve, but if its one of the very long lines that goes from front to back, you're going to need to splice.

If you cant do the work yourself, take it to a very trusted mechanic

The red BRAKE light does function as an indicator for both the parking brake and low fluid.

I think this is the line you need. I'd replace both sides (left hand).
