rear axle swaps

all i'm saying is with these bigger tires, it is going to put more stress on the rear end while in mud. if i put better gears in it, the stress should be easier on the gears. am i right or what.

The way I think of it is like this,

can we agree that the bigger the tire the harder it is to spin with the power of the motor, torque keeping in mind that you must follow the weak link up the DT. I.E, bearings, syncro's,*CLUTCH*, axle's, hubs, etc.

If yes, I look at it like this, the bigger the tire the harder it is to translate the roatatinal forces........................... (engine x torque x trans x ?) to turn the tire,

the lower the gears the easier the (^ ?) can turn the tire with less weare and breakage,

HOWEVER, with that said there are limits specificly 5:71 gears, why

(me like sand, 33"-35"s :) )

the big............the lower the gear the smaller the pinion is that enguages the ring gear.

I happen to like 5:71's (sand and mud/k1 trail) but only in a low power motor (v6 rear of course) and an Auto Trans (toyota only) becouse at's are more gentler on the DT. And believe it or not in day to day whatever the front axle does not get as much torque as the rear.
(I'm not talkin 454, t400 stuff here)

P.S. along with following the weak link up the DT dont forget that (in mud) you might be running on a poor traction, high wheel speed, and high eng. powered vehical, and becouse you cant see through the mud, might run into an underlying obstical, ie stump, rock, and translate all the roatatinal forces (torque) to the weak link.

i am doing some research on swapping a stronger rear axle in place of stock 85 unit. i am thinking of trading a modded mustang for an 85 xcab with 383 and 39 inch boggers. i am worried about the rear end snapping. are there some bolt up axles out there that i can reuse the same wheels and not modify anything.

this truck had a turbo motor in it before, i read that the third member are the same as the v6

If, it's turbo it gotta be IFS if thats the case DO-NOT run 39's!

If, it's an 85 with SFA it cant be an old turbo truck?

2MK, turbo's are only IFS?.......they are.

Give us the spec's so we can figure it out.
