I don't have one but have been thinking I need to make one to do the same thing. I think a couple of guys here have been thinking about it. Maybe we need a rear axle party.

By the way welcome! Go to the "read here first" post and check out the website for meeting location and dates.

I'd be all for an axle rebuild extravaganza.

I've been unable to make the local meetings as it seems like something always comes up.
I need to try harder.

I will call CDan today and see what he'll charge for one.

Post it up when you get the price. I've been thinking I should do this also ... just turned 200K and I'm sure nobody has ever been in there.

Just called Dan. I picked up the SST for $60.00 along with a rear axle rebuild kit. Total came to around $100.00 with the SST. If anyone wants to get together and figure this out together, I'm in. I've looked at the FSM regarding the thrust washer/set screw thingy and don't have a great understanding. I am hoping it will be mo' clear when I get into it.

It was pretty simple. It includes a paper gasket, another inner gasket, and an axle seal. Each of the gaskets was only a couple of bucks, but each of the inner seals was about 16.00.

On another note, I'm getting some sliders built and a rear swingout built on my Slee rear bumper. The guy is up in Denver and is giving me an unbelievable deal. He quoted me $450.00 for sliders and the rear swingout. I provided the H/D spindle. It's up there now. If it turns out well, I'll post up some pics and an endorsement of him. He has been great to deal with so far and might be a more affordable option for many of you in lieu of Hanna or Slee sliders. More to follow. Here is the design and some notes I gave him for the swingout.

Some food for thought from a guy who's done this.
You might consider putting that spare on the drivers side. It made all the sense in the world to me to put it on the passenger, I would get out of the truck and walk straight to the latch, the tire would offset the weight of my fat @ss ... so on. After getting it in, I realized I can't see a damn thing out of that side of the truck. The mirror on the passenger side makes everything smaller and hard to see, and now I can't turn around and see those pesky pine trees I'm about to run into. If it was on the drivers side, I would just stick my head out the window. The area directly behind you is a blind spot anyway. Just a thought.

What about the bearings?

As for the bumper I like the idea, though I would reconsider the 2" receiver hanging down. You could put it where you have the pintle bolts or make it removable where it would bolt into the pintle pattern. Either way looking forward to the finished pics.

you can buy the receiver hitch tubes at Harbor Freight. That's where I got mine. If you buy 2 1/2 inch from a metal dealer, it has a weld seam inside of it you have to somehow grind or file out.

I didn't order bearings. Dan recommended not as they rarely wear out in the back. I did the front axle rebuild in January and everything looked great up there. For that reason, I'm assuming that the PO took pretty good care of it. FYI. I bought the rig in OCT and have gone through most PM stuff with pretty good results. Everything has looked great other than my front crank pulley (with SC pulley) going out. That was spendy.....

Ryan, You can borrow the SST whenever. No issues. I haven't done my axle yet. If things work out, I hope to get into it next weekend.

Thanks for the input on the rear swingout. I thought about the 2" receiver quite a bit. In order to cut a hole in the bumper and put it where the holes are requires cutting into the cross member. I'm not against it, but don't like the idea. He's working the sliders now, so I have some time to change up the design.

I bought a piece of 2" receiver from Layton Trucking here in town and welded it onto my M416. I use it to hold a tailgate carrier and bike racks. It works well.

I knew the rear bearings don't wear as fast but was thinking at 200k it might be good PM. Interesting Dan suggested not to change, how many miles do you have? Any leaks that made you want to service the seals?

I like the trailer setup but do you find using the pintle/lunette combo noisy? Mine was converted to 2" receiver by PO but it would be easy to convert back and I have all the parts.
