I'm going to look at a R150f for my '85 build, but he rolled the pickup and the transmission/transfer/crossmember/front drive shaft are all together and he only wants $350.

Obviously, I could shift it thru the gears and try to feel anything weird, but is there anything specific I can look for?

check the play in the input shaft bearing.
its one bearing that gets the most abuse, and wears quicker on any trans

pull the drain plug and look for critters

other than that, without driving it, you just gotta hope for the best

Good ideas. Thanks!

Even better. I found out a friend has several R150Fs in his shop and several top shift gear driven transfer cases to boot! Plus he'll let me have them for $100/ea. Sweet deal!

Well aren't you just Mr. Lucky!...... Turd! :D

I really don't want to burst his bubble BUT!

The V6 5speeds w/ TC were all top shift and if they have a gear drive case they're R151s

bigndn, are you counting the TC cover bolts?

:whoops:

You mean 7 bolts = gear driven and 5 = chain driven? Yes.

Didn't make it over last night, will go tonight.
