Im finally in the stage to reinstall the cam in the head, and i bought soem came shaft bearings. Six came in the box, But it appears I only need 2? The very front and very back to supports for the cam are to small to fit in there and the cam is extremely snug. Unlike the middle support where there was one previously. Im not even really sure if the front and back two had one to begin with?
HelP!

The "journal" is the part that spins around, it's part of the cam in this case. The "bearing" is the part that sits still, and for 22R-series engines it is part of the head and the 3 caps that hold the cam in place. Read post #3 and #7 from your link. You can't interchange the bearing caps, unless you have some expensive machining work done. They have to be line-bored to spec. This is probably why the cam is tight. You can plastigauge them to check the tolerance.

What happened to your old caps?

The caps are the part that is tightened down to the head, correct?
Im refering to the metal peices that fit inbetween... ahhh screw it. heres my auto CAD skilled paint drawing (i miss CAD right now) The middle part thats not circle. What do you call it. Why is it there? And why does only the middle one have it?

Whoa. Did you really draw that in AutoCAD? If so, you need to come out here and take one of our classes. ;)

Anyhoo... yes the small semi-circular part that you bolt down with the 2 small bolts is the bearing cap, since it "caps" the bearing. BTW, be VERY careful when tightening them down to the final spec, they strip very easily, and then you'll need to put a Heli-coil into the head.

I have no idea what that other thing is you're talking about. There shouldn't be anything on the middle journal, just the cam, nothing else.

Where did it come from?

Ok, Be careful. I get a pic and upload it tnoight since i now have a working camera. The thing in the middle acts as a 'bearing' between the cam and cap?

no, thats not my autocad. In fact, im brilliant in CAD'. Ive got a working portal axle prototype using toyota axles and 3rds. I need to patent it.

You got good CAD classes?
