I am annoyed.

I hate carburetors.
I hate Briggs and Stratton's.

I tried to buy a mower with a Honda engine but had no luck..... all bloody Brigg's but i digress.....

So, needle and seat sticks shut (engine wont start... wont take fuel....blow through fuel line towards carb=blocked).

Took off the float bowl, cleaned out the gunk (float bowl has no drain), cleaned the two main jets that were perfectly fine... cleaned the already clean emulsifier tubes, checked proper operation of the needle and seat. Put it all back together and it starts and idles fine buts starts missing and backfiring at WOT.

New plugs... same
New fuel filter.... same
New Premium fuel....same
Blew back through fuel line (not clogged or restricted)... same
Fuel tank venting OK

Ive taken the carb apart three times to make sure I haven't messed anything up.... no dice.

This thing is not fun to work on, its hard to get to, everything is upside down and loves to fall out and land all over the floor and the general build quality is poor to say the least.

Soloutions?

LOL I bought Teri a new Honda mower, it was so gutless she took it back and demanded a John Deere, wouldn't leave without
the take back and deal. That JD still runs like monster.
Is there an inline pump? Maybe the vent in the cap is buggered. My Husqvarna would lose power, had to replace the vented cap.

Had same problem with the Briggs on my mower this year.. changed the plug.. still no go... I ended up finding an old can of quick start fluid in the garage.. couple squirts ...fired up and die.. after third attempt.. puked a lot of white smoke and hasn't been a problem since.... redneck at its finest..

One pull start since 91' removable bowl carb (but why would you need to when not s***e). They just don't make them like they used to. Only plastic is the wheels and the airbox assy. Change oil every couple years and add go juice thats it. :-P

Any chance there is still an issue with spark? http://www.briggsandstratton.com/eu/en/support/faqs/replacing-the-ignition

Thats bad luck man. I buy my mowers used too. I buy the ones that say "ran great last year but won't start this year...$40". Usually a simple clean of the carb does the trick and I"m in business. Sounds like you ran into something a wee bit tougher here. Maybe just look for another used one?

Pump pumps great and the vent is clear.

You have an excavator right?

Dig a hole...place the excressence in said hole, drink beer and urinate on top of the fresh dirt after hole is filled.

You actually have a blade of grass that's still alive?

Perhaps I should just get SWMBO to run some diesel through it eh? :hmm:

Thing is it isn't used.... I bought it new a few years ago. It has 38hrs on it for fxxx sake. Its been washed after every use and stored in a warm dry area on a trickle charger after every use. Its had a more pampered upbringing than the Olsen twins gawd dammit.

Bloody thing is getting a can of seafoam and and a WOT throttle afternoon in the back corner of the property tomorrow.

We got a lawnmower from Rona about ten years ago for around $300 and it has a Honda engine on it...still starts 2nd pull.

There's one at Home Depot with honda engine for $319 (http://www.homedepot.ca/product/law...-wheel-push-gas-walk-behind-lawn-mower/861440).

As for solutions with your existing frustration machine, I got nothing...but I think you should take a video of whatever "solution" you come up with, simply for our amusement here :-)

Oh, does the air get filtered through a piece of foam? Some do, some don't. I have a wood splitter that had similar symptoms and it was air filtration restricting air flow.

My Briggs and Stratton hunter 46 320 was a bit contaminated and the choke would not close easy, also the fan blade that moves the metal arm to carb with little springs was stuck.
So that was solved with wd40 and also the rpm/choke cable was a bit to tight so released a bit and starts fine now.
