Does the spline section inside the opening to the transfer case move in and out with the lever on top? That once engages and disengages the PTO. The spline piece you see does not slip over the transmission tailshaft. The Toyota two direction PTOs the input gear is always driven. Internally it switched between forward/neutral/reverse. The later single direction PTO the input gear moved over to the PTO gear in the transfer case. The Ramsey believe works the same way. Pretty sure if you don't have the mating spline piece the PTO will not work.

Yes. The lever does operate the inner gear.

Engine doesn't matter it's the transmission tailshaft that does. The shaft pictured is from a three speed. If your 74 is an early 74 it came with a three speed in the US.

Thanks for info. 10/74 birthday, 4 speed. I'm traveling so i can't look over the transmission...
i know zip about the PTO but am learning.
