Got to get out and help some stuck people yesterday. Got a call from Jeff (nensha) yesterday, he had been contacted by the forest service about someone stuck on the far north end of Rampart. Talked to Rick ellsworth about it and headed out to get them. They went out playing in a dodge durango and did alright until they tried to turn around. They were stuck up to the door in a drift, I had to pull them completely 180 degrees to get them back on the road. On my way there, I ran into a guy stuck in a suburban, that really tested my 9,500 winch. He was heading down hotel gulch and asked me what I thought his chances were, I quickly talked him into heading back out to rampart. Taking that land yacht down 346 would have been very bad.

All my recovery gear seems to be missing from when I got stuck, Justin has my shackle and strap still attached to his 4runner, Rodney left with my tire chain tool in his pocket, my winch cable is badly damaged, and who knows what happened to my receiver hitch pin. Figured I could make something work though. In the end I just utilized the winch to get everyone out, including myself once.

Big thanks to Jeff for relaying all the info.

I saw the title and thought you had done it again, get stuck that is...

Good job Luke. I hope those people realized how many hundreds of dollars you saved them.

Rampart itself never closes. They do close the gate at devils head so you can't go all the way from the springs to Denver.

Do you guys do any winter runs or camp there during the winter? I am about to move to Larkspur and may end up running with you guys.

Has anyone ever driven in from Monument on Mt Herman Rd/Forest Rd 320?

Yes and yes. Nice thing about our area is that the trails don't close. I personally do a lot of winter camping and all the snow runs I can fit in. Always bummed when i get up near my parents house in milliken because ALL the trails are closed. Be nice if they left the easy one like old flowers road open, that place would make for a great snow run.

I don't think they close mt. Herman, but I can't be a 100% on that one. I have driven up it in some pretty deep snow.
