Maybe it's just me but I have heard other drivers complain bout this too. About 2 months ago I figured I should keep an eye on what kind of fuel milage I am getting. I buy my gas primarily at the Super Wawa near were I live. My milage has varied from 10.8 mpg to 14.6 mpg, the latest being closer to 10 mpg. I altered my driving habits to get better gas milage but the opposite seems to be happening. My Cruise has been running great without any performance changes or any new mods that would affect my milage. Is there something going on with the gas I am buying?

Trying to keep RPM's low does not equal better gas milage in our trucks. (if that's what you are altering).

For city driving I keep the power button on and overdrive off.

I've done this before in the past and had very consistent results averaging a few tenths difference between fill ups. When I say I have altered my driving habits I have slowed it down on the highway and drive less aggressive around town.

try a new fuel filter and try to buy your gas from the same place everytime, we fill up at costco usually once a week, if we go on a trip we only use pacific pride, cfn, cenex,or 76. I dunno if it makes a difference or not but it works for us?

Back on the fuel filter, my dealer wont touch the fuel filter on my rig, says they might damage the fuel lines coming in and out of the filter and refuse to do it!!!! and till it warms up a little im not gonna even attempt it!

I would get a new dealer  thats ridiculous that they won't do a maintenance item.

Are all you trips the same, there could be a pretty good difference, based on the percentage of highway versus city versus cold weather warm up.

My driving pattern has been very consistent. Nothing out of the ordinary that's what has me puzzled.

oh well i will just do it myself when i have time! The service manager there is kinda a idiot, he told me i need to do my 120000 mile service pay in full, but not install new fuel filter and he wont do my plugs cap and wires since before i bought the original owner put in 60,000 mile plugs and its on about 30,000 miles and told him i already baselined all my fluids and that i was holding off on the front diff so i could do my birfs at the same time, he told me good luck... i told him where to go, and told him good luck with keeping customers...

I wish i lived near American Toyota!

For loss of fuel mileage, check where you buy your fuel. Many states do not require labeling the pumps if and when they are selling gasohol (E10). Only Minnesota, Missouri and Hawaii mandate the use of it. Gasohol will lower your MPG anywhere from 5 to 20%. To buy an alcohol tester search for Briggs and Stratton Part # 100023.

I freaking HATE buying gas with Ethanol in it......but it seems like ever place I go has 10% in it around here. ( DFW )

lockd-97 is that what I think it is????? Is that the elusive slee stack in your photo. i thought those were extinct. Last seen in the 80s.. Wow remember the ass on chaka.....Oh and my gas sucks also.

Chaka? What about Holly? Didn't she grow up to be a porn star?

Ok, tech... My bet is the ethanol in the gas. Same issue here in Oregon for me.

Ya, my mileage has been pretty consistantly just over 10 mpg and I'm sure its the ethonal here. I understand our wonderful governor has mandated its use year-round. Wonderful.

BTW, I tried to get my local dealer to replace my fuel filter too and they also refused to do it. Said "Toyota says it's not a maintainence item". They gave me every excuse in the book to get me to go away. I don't know why it scares them so much, but they definately did not want to touch that fuel filter with a ten foot pole.

Its is was it is.............................

More depressing than the mileage is the $ of the fuel IMO.

Just pisses me off that congress has time to investigate stupid s*** like Roger Clemmons but has not time for real issues such as how badly we are being gouged by the Gas companies.

And Windfall profits:flipoff2:

I've been wanting to ask the same question. I've always noticed a drop in the winter months due to the winter additive packages (I presume) and the higher RPMs to warm up, but this year and especially here lately it's gotten really bad (around 11 mpg). I've always gotten around 13 in the winter and 14.5 to 15 in the summer. I'm going to change up where I get my gas and see if that makes any difference.

Anybody here DIY on fuel filter? Makes me wonder too why the dealer refused to touch it.

Questions on fuel filter? Search - lots of information and tips. And no, a new fuel filter won't improve your mileage like a clean air filter will.

I've noticed mine does better when it isn't real hot or real cold, this time of year I am getting 14 to 15 ish if I drive nice. (Around here it gets misreable hot 100+ for weeks straight and cold in the winter.) We did take a drive to Eastern Idaho just before Christmas, drove 80 with the cruise set and got 15 on the way down and almost 16 on the way back! I was way impressed!!!!
