This would be a great thing to have on my cruiser. I hope it goes into production so I don't have to try and build one.

Seems like it was funded. That is actually a pretty cool idea. If I had some money to throw around I might think of something like that to purchase.

Yeah, it's a lot more $$$ than I would ever bother with for a shower, but then given the materials, welding, painting/coating, fixtures, small sales volume it's not likely to be making him super rich...

I'm personally happy with a bucket, a billy or two of boiling water added in and a $35 or less 12V shower pump (e.g. something like http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Shower-Batteries-Cigarette-Lighter/dp/B000V1UALM?tag=ihco-20) or cheaper yet: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/12v-portable-shower (woof...)

I've used the 12V shower setup last trip to oz (mate had one) and we had the luxury of showers every few days - worked great.

If you have the time to have a shower, seems like you have the time to heat up water for a shower and some tea and bikkies...

cheers,
george.

^^ I like that 12v one.

I picked up a brand new still packaged Zodi shower system and a still in the box Deluxe Shower Enclosure off Craigslist for $75, all in. Thats about $250 less than i would have paid in the store. For that price, its pretty hard to beat. For a really hot shower I cycle the water through the heater for about 2-4 minutes, then shower. Ice cold water will be piping hot and the pressure is plenty for getting the grime off.

The Zodi packs down into its own little box, nice and small.

$300 plus shipping is pretty steep, but I like the idea. If it had its own heating element I'd feel much better about that price. I've tried to heat water via a solar shower on the roof on a cloudy day. That's what prompted me to buy the Zodi.

^ the Helton on my rig never fails to impress. Used it again apart of our recent DV foray. It will heat 5-gallons of water in about 10-minutes for 4-5 military style showers. Glad I have it.

Although the Road Shower undoubtedly will work for some there is no space atop my LC for it (RTT). And freezing would be an issue sometimes...

For 60 bucks you can pump, line and build the same unit just not as pretty, however it is more functional. 4 inch ABS
2 end caps, a bit of potable water hose, and a few fittings. You're rolling. And showering. Plus you can place it in a less
Vulnerable position, trees love water and they will remove this item to get it. Lol

The biggest drawback IMO, is its very limited capability. You need water, then you need to carry that water all day long and hope it heats up, then you need to shower before that water cools back down. And it's still limited. Once that water runs out, you have to find more and start the process all over again. I can source right from a creek or river and have hot water in minutes.

If I didn't score the Zodi for so cheap, the Helton seems like the clear winner. But I'm not disappointed with my setup at all. Very few things beat a HOT shower when you're on the trail for an extended period of time.

I can see where this product would have a place in really hot climates with ample sunshine and few trees.

I'd do the helton as a first choice. I had the Zodi and was not impressed when I compared it to heat exchanger systems.

Nah. Get a Helton, a 12V pump and a bucket. Only drawback compared to this thing is that the engine needs to be warm and running. Depending on the wind you can get smoked out of your kitchen area during warmup.

I guess this thing can be swapped between vehicles pretty easily though.

yeah freezing is the first thing that came to mind for me too...although, I am most inclined to shower when it's hot out...

Bucket, cheapie ebay 12V pump/shower and a billy to add some boiling water to the bucket seems good enough for me. No meddling with the coolant system etc.

But then this is my idea of a shower enclosure (just to keep the breeze/wind off) :

So, I'm not one to spend any serious money on just a shower... :)

cheers,

I bought this cool unit a few months back.
Works via its own battery, 12V cable to your rig, or 110V,
All you need is a 5 gallon bucket to put the pickup head into, and you have instant hot water for a shower or doing dishes.

I have a nice Zodi Extreme too, but will be retiring it.

PS, I did not know the same guy had reviewed this washer.
It may only be 110V though, I am not sure, but it too is imported by Mr Heater in the states.
The shower above is designed in Australia, but built in China I believe.

I agree, but having hot water handy to wash up hands and dishes with is worth a few bucks IMHO.
