Hi Everybody,

I have a r151 23 spline chain driven electric shift transfer case for my '85 4Runner installed which plays up all of the time. Is highly unreliable. I have purchased a manual transfer case from a '97 4runner and was told it was told it would bolt up. Well it doesn't, the bloody thing has a 26 spline input shaft  . It appears to have same dimensions in other respects. Would anybody know if the R151 Electric Shifting 23 Spline Transfer case INPUT SHAFT would fit into the manual transfer case before I do the work. Basically, can I swap them over?

Note: Photos can be emailed personally if required.

Thanks,
Cheers with a thousand Beers,

Just for clarification, do you have a R151 trans and if so what year is it? Do you have to have an electronic t-case? Generally the 151 came behind the turbo 4cyl motors in 87 and as such any manual shift 4cyl T-case from 81? - 95 should bolt in behind it. 86-95 for sure. Marlin Crawler has lots of options for mating trans and T-cases, might look there to see if there is an adapter that will work for you.

Hi Jynx, thanks for your response, it doesn't matter what years the boxes are, l'm in Auzz and our models are a bit different down under, what l really need to know if l can swap the imput shafts from one to the other, one is a 26 spline the other is a 23 spline, is it a simple swap? or are there to many incompatiblies? l was hoping that some has tried this exercise before, and hopefully save me the futility of pulling both cases apart to find find out it won't work cheers rumrebel

Well that makes some sense. I know that here in the states they swap the 21 spline inputs for the 23 spline to increase strength, might check out Marlin Crawlers website to see if he has instructions on the 21 to 23 spline swap, that might give you an idea. I have no idea about compatibility since we generally are trying to put the 4cyl gear drive cases behind everything over here in the states.
