Looking through the FSM and didn't see this...

What's the capacity of the A/C system on a 92? In pounds.
and does $50 a pound sound decent?

Top of page AC-17:

31.74 +/- 1.76 oz.

(16oz = 1lb)

$50 per lb is not out of line; where'd you find it? Or is this a mechanic's charge?

Tell us more about what you're up to; do you have a thread on this? Or are you simply topping it up?

Just curious,

Curtis

Thanks,

Just topping it off, doing whatever is possible here in Phoenix to try and survive! The A/C isn't blowing as cold as it should be.

Two things that's weird though:

1. PS vent is not blowing cold at all.
2. MAX doesn't blow as cold as 2 or 3.

I guess I need to try and see what the dampers are doing.

I think I'm also going to do the Aux fan thing at the condenser and may actually investigate some other venting in the engine bay. I remember those 5.9l Grand Cherokee's having some vents in the fender. Something likemthat but not as obvious.

Oh and the $50 is a mechanics price.

Toyota quoted me $132 to check the system and recharge it up to 1lb, which seems pretty good.

At MAX, air goes through the evaporator the fastest, and has less "cooling" time. Air is cool better at 2 & 3, but the rear passengers may not like the fan at 2 & 3.

I have noticed the same thing on my R134a Auto AC 80, when it first turns on and the computer is trying to cool off the hot cab with the fan on high the air coming out is cool but not ice cold, later on when the cab cools down and the fan slows the air coming out is ice cold and chills you to the bone, I dislike recirc and try to use fresh all the time so incoming air temps is not the reason,

in theory the orifice valve should adjust to maintain evaporator ~35 degree no matter how much air flows through it, but I have never been in a new 80 so I do not know what its peak performance is, maybe it is just overwhelmed or maybe it cannot keep up because the refrigerant is low, I have not yet checked the pressures as it has stayed about the same coming up on the third summer with my 80.

I have a thermometer I need to put in the vent.

Out here we have to use Recirc or we'll fry, not to mention the constant beach worth of dust and sand flying around. It's amazing what a difference the Sun makes. I never had such an issue when we lived in Atlanta, but then again it was never 110 degrees. I wouldn't mind trying to design some type of cabin filter to retro into the truck. Hmmmm

People that live outside of Arizona can not understand our intense heat. Its not so much the 110 temp but the 2500btu/ft at its peak.

Not only can you cook an egg on the sidewalk but you need to be careful not to burn it.:flipoff2:

Just recharged

I had my AC recharged, among other things (water pump, new radiator) 1 lb cost me $40. My mechanic said he would hunt some down and he found it. Since then she blows ice cold. I live in Augusta, GA and the humidity kills us here. Oh yeah, tinting your windows helps too. My 91 had no tint whatsoever.
