It sounds like the shop (a) doesn't have experience working on 60s and (b) doesn't know what it's in for. That's a sure recipe for a less than satisfactory result.
If it were me, I would try to let the guys at the shop you are talking to know on the front end what all is involved in the job. That way, they can decide whether its something they still want to tackle and, if so, what's a fair price for the labor.
