I was just about to change the engine oil dipstick O-ring (9672119010) when I noticed another 'seal' on the dipstick just above the O-ring. I don't see any mention of it on the Partsouq diagrams. The shape reminds me of one of the fuel injector seals. Is this a bodge or does that part come with the dipstick tube assembly?

I don't recall seeing anything like that before. Better than nothing I guess. I put in the seal and got a new dipstick because, well why not. What I can tell you is the new stick is TIGHT! Kind of scary how easy the old one was to pull out in comparison. Cheap, somewhat easy to do but I think this is overlooked part of PM/baseline work.

Changing all of those O-Rings and a new dipstick will reduce the random air that your engine will suck in while it's under vacuum. Should assist with HP and getting air/fuel ratios correct again.

I don't recall seeing that upper seal before either and nothing shows on the parts diagrams but it sure looks like it has been there for a few Texas summers.

Thanks Onur. Not sure i'm motivated to buy a new tube for the sake of a grommet. If it bites my ass in the future then its an easy fix.

Didn't think about that. I was concerned about possible water infiltration. When I rebuilt the engine, the tubes came apart too easily. Started thinking that a vacuum could easily suck water past the seal during a water crossing.

That's also a good reason to change the cap or seal on your oil fill cap as well.

Maybe a good time for a new gas cap too.

Funny but i was on the same wavelength as @BILT4ME . New gas and oil caps already in place. Allowing water to be sucked into the sump never entered my head. 🙄
