Hi,

Someone near me is selling a dually. It's a 1986, 22RE, auto. The cab is expanded so it seats four.

I'm curious what I could reasonably expect in terms of MPG? I'm imaging there would be some loss from the extra wheels/weight.

I like the truck as it's a bit different. Also interested in reading any opinions you have on the dually.

Thanks

I've heard that the 86 duallies were the transition year between the desirable 1987+ axles and the weaker early axles, so it's kind of a toss as to whether this truck's sporting a quality axle or just a doubled-up stocker.

Guessing fuel economy on a one-off rig's like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, there are alot of factors besides weight, slushbox, and gearing, however, I think overall, you're bound for the mid-teens at best, give or take the number of passengers, and weight of cargo at any given time.

"1-ton" is also subjective as it's a rating based off the trucks curb weight...

So don't expect a Peterbilt with a 1,000lb plus trailer...

Finally a good place for these pics.... A dually I saw down in LA this summer...

That's the truck I saw at my local pull-a-part... ex, it was a different color...

oops, and the sleeper went all the way to the wind shield. The sleeper did not start at the back of the cab.
