Hello,

I just converted AHC to LC type Suspension at my local shop. I noticed that the front is super low comparing to the back. Driving the truck feels pretty firm and steady on the road. Its just the front so low. Its bothering me. What are your thoughts ? Is it safe to drive like this long term ?

Please see picture for detail.

Regards

Fliu

Did you hangs out the torsion bars? If not, the LX bars are not strong enough to support the vehicle properly. If so, just adjust the torsion bars up until desired height is reached. Clearly the shop did not know what they were doing.

What all did they specifically do?

Looks like they used the stock LX torsion bars and failed to even reindex them. As @DirtDawg says above, the LX bars are not strong enough to support the vehicle properly. While the LX tbs can work, they are far, far, far from ideal (or safe). They are like running on too soft springs which is bad news. Either get the OEM LandCruiser tbs or get some ToughDog tbs.

Yup. You need OEM LC or aftermarket torsion bars. There's always a couple sets in the classifieds here, but shipping wouldn't be cheap. If you have to buy some, @reevesci has the Tough Dogs, and they're likely less than the Toyotas.

They bought a LX470 conversion kit including the shock and coil spring. They mentioned nothing was done on the torsion bar.

Yea still the old torsion bar.

Thanks, Any idea how much is labor cost to swap torsion bar in a shop ?

Sounds like the strutmaster kit, that expects you to just re-index the LX470 bars.

As stated above, you need some stronger non-AHC or aftermarket torsion bars.

Oh boy... the strut masters conversion kit... those people are idiots to try to sell such a product. If you are going to standard suspension on an LX you MUST swap the torsion bars. It is not safe to keep the stock bars.

I suggest getting torsion bars and any good shop should be able to install them for under $100.

The torsion bar connection is pretty rusty. Will there be any problem for installation ? Thanks

I've had them pop right out and then again I've had to beat the hell out of them... 2- 4 hours. Hard to say by pics. I'd soak them with PB Blaster, Kroil or MicroMist while waiting on the new bars.

I can have them out tomorrow morning. Yes, FedEx home or ground, pending residence or business address. Looks like 3 days.

Cool I will think about it. Thanks for the information. Any shipping insurance included in price by the way.

@ffl3883 Your LX looks pretty stock. Unless you plan on adding a bunch of weight in the near future, I'd just crank up the AHC bars to your desired height or as close as you can get. Then, try and score some 2nd hand non-AHC bars. Slee, Cruiser Outfitters, etc probably have some laying around the shop.

T-bar diameters (not diesel):
Ironman, TJM, Tough Dog 32mm
Sway Away 31mm
OME is 30.5mm
OEM, non-AHC 28.87mm
AHC 25.5mm

Thank you for the information, is it safe to drive long distance for the short term while I am waiting to get the part ?
