Hey all. I’m heading to anza Borrego next weekend. (All are welcome to join or meet me out there.)
But my front birfs have been clicking for a few months now. Only with steering wheel full lock left or right like turning from a stop sign.

Do I:
Go and not worry about it and not wheel hard

Reschedule to after front axle service done

Try to Express order new axles and chuck them in without a full rebuild during the week (with work and kids this is probably not possible)

Other?

Thanks all
Andy

It sounds like birfs are could be the issue. When was the last time you looked at them? Could be failure all the way down to dry birfs.

So I just did a brake job including new bearings races and rotors calipers and topped off birds with grease 2 months ago.

In my limited knowledge with birfs... Clicking is bad

Some might disagree, but IMPO, I think it depends on your type of outing and risk aversion level. Is it a family outing or a fun guys outing? If the latter, wheel it and have fun but have a recovery plan/tow home plan if you get stuck (standard for any outing). If family is coming, I'd wait and go when the rig is fixed.

Sounds like your birfs are shot and need to be replaced by what you are describing... clicking is bad.

Also, my two cents, a knuckle rebuild is not the job to do "fast" just to get it done before a trip. Install good quality wipers, seals, bearings, knuckle/flange studs (if needed), correct torques on all bolts etc and do it right the first time.

Good advice. It is non-family. Only me and another friend. Thanks guys.

Gathering parts to do a front knuckle rebuild with new birfs and wanted to ask group their opinion on part time kit. Since I’m in there. Worth it?

Not really much benifit if you are running the automatic, some will say you can save money and increase mileage (provide you run lock out hubs as well) but it will handle very different from what you are used to, so it all really depends on what you are hoping to gain out of it. My experience is it is not really worth it. JMHO.
