What volume is yours set? Not the stereo knob volume, but the mic gain in the settings. Mine was 0 by default. I have it set to 50 and the one person who called me said they could hear me fine
Mind blown. Gonna go check thanks

Ok a few other more specific questions:
  1. Anyone running OBD Fusion directly on the GROM and find that you have to scroll down in OBD Fusion and manually reconnect? every. damn. time.
  2. Is there an easy way to jump from an Android installed app (like OBD Fusion) back to either the main menu or preferably to Carplay without needing to hit multiple buttons to bring up the left menu and escape the app? (I really wish the audio/"media" button did that, rather than move the audio function off AUX and cause all the audio to drop)
    1. Related: I assume there's no way to override the Toyota "Info" button to do something besides show my XM crap I can't use.
  3. Anyone else get annoyed when using the scroll bar up a few times that it kicks back to the Toyota menu system because you've touched the top right corner 3 times in a row?

Bring a pair of AirPods. Solves the problem and the person you're talking to will be much happier.
+1 highly recommend for longer planned calls. They make a huge difference in noise reduction. Though sometimes you just aren't expecting a call...

Nobody can hear me on the grom. Did you have to install an external mic?

Yup, this is the answer

Was a nice try. My mic was set to 45. I picked it up further. No change. Siri can’t hear me.
the only other idea I have… you did plug the 3.5mm headphone-type audio wire into the GROM, right?

Got to the bottom of it. I have an older unit with a separate mic attachment. Just plugged it in. It sucks bad. Spoke to grom. Their new units utilize the factory mic. Going to order a new harness for $30. Link to harness in case anyone else is in the same boat.

It depends on whether you have the latest MCFLEX6Y power interface cable. The latest cable has the 3.5 mm mic jack and can integrate with the factory mic. You need to simply plug into the VLine mic port. With the previous versions, you needed to use the aftermarket mic (provided) with the LEX6VL2 models of the VLine VL2 system.

The microphone gain needs to be adjusted in the settings. Go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner of the VLine user interface, VLine Settings -->Audio, and adjust the microphone gain to 45-65.

Sorry to hijack the thread. I got the new cable w mic integration. The car can hear me now. But I’ve lost audio from the grom. I have an extra port open at the back of the unit. Anyone have any ideas?

It seems our technical team was able to help you, is that correct?
Here is the link to the up-to-date install guide:
Waiting for confirmation that what I did was Ok. I used the new cable and old cable at the same time to make it work lex6 for two audio ports on the infotainment system and the front of the grom. Lex6y for everything else behind the infotainment system and plugged it into the mic port of the grom. Seems to work.

This morning I started my truck, the Grom unit flickered during the Toyota logo at startup, then the Toyota unit went to audio which showed “Connected”, but the GROM display never came on. I drove about 10 minutes, no other buttons seemed to trigger it, and eventually when I restarted the truck it came on normally. Has anyone seen this? Is there a fix aside from just restarting the truck? I’m on the latest firmware according to the unit.

For me, toggling from climate to audio generally fixes it

Thanks I’ll try that next time. Info, Setup, and Maps did nothing

FYI - My GROM unit continued to have major issues. It also continually drained and finally killed my battery. Flickering, grey screen, non-responsive, etc. The stereo shop has sent it back for a warranty replacement and I'm waiting... Major PITA.

Sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced with the GROM product. Please PM us with your ticket number, and we will review the communication with our technical team.

Took a trip to Moab and back to Chicago. The Grom did pretty well, but I noticed every hour or two audio will get choppy, then CarPlay crashes because of a supposedly weak wireless signal. CarPlay auto restarts and then works fine for a while, typically after one brief choppy second or two. Anyone know why CarPlay crashes?

Also more of a CarPlay-specific issue but does anyone know if there’s a way to modify what apps get displayed? My map/music view sometimes include calendar invites and I have no clue if there’s a way to never show those

There are a few areas around my house where wireless carplay cuts out consistently the resumes. Both with the GROM unit and OEM Carplay integration in the Tundra. Running wired in those areas solves it. Likely something to do with the wifi signal being used for wireless carplay. For longer trips, wired is the way to go. You can modify the carplay apps from the settings on the phone via Settings / General / Carplay / Select your car / Apps & Widgets.

The apps and widgets… I can add/remove/reposition the apps, but what I think is the widget screen is ignored. I removed the calendar from the apps, but it still shows up in this view. It’s not a widget, and I even disabled them completely, but the calendar invites still keep popping up. I can clear them for the drive, but they reappear whenever I restart the truck

Finally figured this out, for others reference you have to disable Siri suggestions in the Grom CarPlay settings menu
