put some new rags on the 45

My early 70s Body and Chassis manual lists the maximum OEM size for LPBs (And '40s!) as 9.00-15. Best I can tell, that is a 34.4 inch tire! But I do wonder how well that would clear. Especially with any spring sag at all.

I know this post is nearly a year old, but I wanted to clarify some information. To tell the older tire sizes like that simply double the size listed and add the diameter of the rim.

7.00-15= 29"
7.50-16 = 31"
9.00-15= 33"

Although not all listed sizes are true to size (Michelin's 9.00R16 is 36" tall).

I'm not sure that's true now. The first number is the tire width (but depends on other factors such as the rim you are on!), and your formula only works if the width and the heighth of the rubber tube are the same, which is usually not the case.

Can anyone tell me what size tires will work on a 45LV with a 3" lift? Bull, I like the look of those MT's you put on your 45. Do they roar too much going down the road? I like the aggressive look but will really never use them for there intended use so something less aggressive prob. makes more sense.

Once you price out the difference on the 33x9.5x15 compared to a 235x85x16, you will be more inclined to go the 16" route. MUCH cheaper, and a heck of a lot more stable going down the road. LCJ had the 33x9.5s on his LV and I loaned him a set of my 235s for a desert trip a couple of years back. He was hella impressed with the difference in stability throwing the extra weight of the LV around.

And they clear a 3" lift nicely. Rodney has a pic of our two 45s side by side, so you can see the difference in the 235 vs 255 on the 16"

lola had 16" wheels already so I went the 16" route. That and I can change a flat lickity split. With the split rims.

I have always heard that it is very dangerous mounting tires on split rims, and that it required the use of a safety cage.

Are you saying that changing a flat on these Toyota split rims is pretty fast, easy and safe?
