I was reading about the proposed state park closures this morning on Surfline due to the budget defecit and see that it could effect some of the parks we all love. They include Anza Borrego, Pismo SB (will this effect Surf n' Turf?), Mount San Jacinto just to name a few.

Recessions suck

I guess closing the park means they lock the gates and bathrooms. Here is the list of proposed closures.

Politicians aren't smart enough to look at the parks actually making money and leaving them open. Just my $.02.

They will always float for cuts the programs that will raise the most complaints.

Well it looks like they have ALL state parks listed as "potential". They also have Anza listed as Imperial/Riverside for county even though a majority of it is in San Diego.

Carlsbad State Beach is also listed and I am pretty sure that one makes them revenue.

It is unfortunate to see any State park close but i would suspect that a few of the less popular will probably close down for a little while.

Too bad the geniuses in Sac. can't understand that people are cutting back on traveling long distances and now is the perfect time to capitalize on the parks system.

Just an example...there's a beachfront property in North Laguna Beach called El Moro. Both beach side and inland side of PCH there used to be a mobile home park. Paying renters for the spaces. Long term lease ran out awhile back and the state had them on a month to month for about a year. Last year, they said out to the renters, we want to develop the land for a state campground. It's been over a year. They actually started working on cleaning the place up and turning it into a state campground. All the work stopped a few months ago when lots of state projects got put on hold with the budget mess. Land is just sitting there now half done. No revenue to the state, nothing. Shear stupidity. The place would be packed year round with campers if they could finish the place and open it up.

I've personally met Mimi Walters from our district. Her two nephews are eagle scouts from our troop...a point I made in my letter to her.
