Knuckles

Just went out and measured the knuckles and to my surprise they are large pattern....which is a good thing for high steer options :bounce:.

Anyone know a good way to tell if they are fine spline vs. corse spline (Jim explained it to me but my memory escapes me)? The axles are on on jack stands...

Planning to order Metal Tech front fenders and family cage tomorrow.

Most likely order the Profitt's 4link kit later this week too...

Yep - that's the guy. Really nice kid...just didn't know squat about cruisers...

The chrome bezel and and coilovers are going to get tossed but the '8' ball shifter and valvestem caps will stay for good karma :steer:.

Dont throw away the chrome bezel. I'll take it, been wanting one to hang up in the garage.

Huh? The axles you bought or the axles under the truck you bought?

Either way, call me(if you want) before you give anybody your CC # tomorow.

I got the day off and may be able to save you some coin or point you in the right direction if this is going to be a hardcore build.

Or, you may not need help, just offering.

The ones I bought...I'll give you a ring tomorrow if I get a chance to step away from work.

Thanks for the offer to help!

Cool. Gonna have something on the smoker all day, so I'll just be drinkin beer and hanging out. (what I do best)

My first Cruiser was a 72 FJ40, had a Crate 3-fidy with 350

Horse/380 ft/Lb, SM420, 38's, etc. hence the screen name 72Rockcruiser, so

maybe I can help, maybe not, but always love to talk Cruisers.

more and more projects on the board nowadays, wish I wasn't a broke college kid..

Don't wish it away - those were some of the best times of my life! This whole getting up and going to work all day, every day, kinda' sux!

Small update/change in direction for the build.

I have scrapped the 4link idea and will be using 55 series springs in the rear (I've got a pair coming in the mail this week). Cost was the biggest concern here. I think the sprung over rear will perform fine and I'm going to put the funds toward an ARB in the front instead.

I've also decided to repaint the cruiser (myself) the original Cygnus white. It's my favorite color. There are some rust areas that need to be addressed so why not sand and paint the entire rig :meh:.

I've already started disassembling the truck and hope to start sanding and cutting later this week as time allows.

Jon, you're going to beat me in the project 40 timeframe... I've still got a back axle on mine, and need to get my tub blasted... I was going to go down the same route, paint it myself and the original color, WHITE, although I don't think mine was Cygnus since it was a 74...

But, I've got a plan up my sleeve that would set mine apart from ANY LC I've seen...

Seems i've never stopped being a poor college kid. Kept changing my major and then when I did graduate I decided to go back and get a different degree and after that the masters.

Working 45-50 hours a week and doing 30+ hours of homework a week really blows now.

Dang Jon.....if that's what you consider "Not so nice", we need to talk. Definitely a solid foundation for a trail rig. Nice score!

Sad to see the 4-Link abandoned, but I understand. I think the money is better spent on a front ARB IMHO. Do you think you will be wanting an 465 adapter plate like mine? If so, I can talk to the machinist.

Yes - but questions :)

This is the adapter that is b/w the tranny and tcase correct or bell housing to tranny?

Also, did this plate allow you 'clock' your drivetrain or was that done with something else?

Like RK says, you'll need a 3sp bellhousing. This plate adapts transmission to transfer, and you'll need the 3spd gear, iirc, that fits the o/p shaft of the 465. In short, grab a 3sp case if you don't already have one. This plate clocks the t/c up a bit, so you can run a nearly flat skid, and the linkage still (barely) clears the tub. I have a pilot bearing for you, but you'll need a t/o bearing and 11" Chevy clutch disc. A small piece of exhaust tubing will sleeve the front bearing retainer on the 465 so it will mate with the t/o bearing. You'll also need to get the front bearing retainer turned down on the 465 b/c the diameter is a bit large for the 3sp bellhousing. You'll need a couple of other things, like a thick washer, and a spacer for the output shaft, but my machinist can hook all that up too.

Just went back and noticed this thing is a '70 model. You'll be set on tcase and bellhousing.

At least you don't have kids... that's when it gets really interesting...

Yeah but with kids you are putting time into something that you love.
I don't love my job or my school work.
