I am trying to put this 4runner back on that road. It has not been on the road since 2009.
I am supposed to get the safty stickers in 2 days, but it seems everytime I drive it, a new problem appears.
Losing my running lights , alternator, having to change a lower control arm to get the allignment done ( was required for safty inspection), and so on.
My latest problem driving from work tonight, suddenly I started to hear a funkey clunking sound and scraping that gets worse when I apply the brakes.
I found the brake shoes have come apart, meaning the padings seperated from the metal. The padings are still thick just like new.
What would cause this?
and is there a recomended brand to buy bare in mind I only have 2 places to get them from, Napa , or Carquest?
Thanks in advace for any insight.

I will find out what these shoes were, but I think they are from Toyota.
They don't make them like they used to I guess.
Thanks bud.

shoes

my shoes did that in the summer. They were pretty new from Lordco or VAP, not Toyota. Not sure of the cause, but went with Toyota this time around. They seem a lot better, but it's early yet.

I think the cause was from not being used , rust started building up between the pads and the metal and now that they are used with drums that are not refaced they came lose.
This only happened in one side , I am thinking that maybe this side is getting more pressure.
Years ago , I got a rear axle from a 1952 1/2 Ton international , that was sitting in the field for about 20 years ,
I was amazed that the brake shoes were still in good shape and I didn't have to replace them.
They were The riveted type.
I can't remember the last time I bought shoes that were riveted.
Thanks for sharing your thougths everyone.
