Pricing advice, to ship or not to ship?

Hi Guys,

I have not posted here in ages, but thought I could perhaps seek some advice from the experts. Thanks so much in advance.

My time in the Middle East is coming to an end, and we are likely to be relocated to Houston this summer. I have a lovingly restored 82 FJ45 LWB. It was a solid restoration, frame off all new body panels, wiring, brake lines, everything, with the original f2 engine.

Here's the deal: and can't decide if I should sell it here, where I would be lucky to get $8,000 or ship it to the US at vast expense, and try to sell it there eventually. My Husband, while darling and indulgent to a fault, would prefer not to finance yet another automotive extravagance.

Any thoughts on what my rig might be worth in the US, and any advice on import issues from scary foreign countries would be greatly appreciated.

I think you would certainly get more than $8k plus the cost of importing here. You should be able to get a lot more, but you never can tell these days. As long as you wait for the right buyer, you'll do well. No problems importing due to age, the one thing I haven't dealt with is the language barrier. Marv at Specter Off Road might have some tips for you on that. Good luck, I hope you bring it to the states.

In better times a clean, thorughly redone 45 would bring 25k +/- but I have no idea in today's market. If you had a buyer before you shipped it then that might be an option. Dang. Hope all goes well.

Any idea what the import cost are? Any current pictures? I noticed the ones you posted were from 4 years ago.

Here is one forsale up in Canada for $14k. Its really clean. Might make a decent comparison.

What about posting it up forsale to get an idea of what you could get for it. Just mention that it needs to be shipped and that you will cover the shipping cost if you get what you are looking for.
