I'm looking at the '96 FSM and it doesn't list a seating depth measurement for the Vane Pump Drive Gear. The following is from the FSM.
INSTALL VANE PUMP GEAR
(a) Install the woodruff key and gear.
(b) Using soft jaws on a vise, clamp the gear in the vise.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the gear.
(c) Torque the gear set nut.
Torque: 74 N-m (750 kgf-cm, 54 ft-lbs)
That's it, no depth/seating measurement is given, however, it has been reported if it's not in the same position as the original one it will make noise (usually clicking/ticking sound).
