Power Steering Info 83 Toy

Please bear with me, I'm on dial up and searching has given me nothing, probably my fault. It takes SOOOOOOO long too.

I am building an off road rig using the running gear from a 83 Toyota PU and have a ton of questions but will try to stick with one problem at a time.

I have read that the IFS 86-88 or 89 4runner steering box is a good upgrade and I have power steering on my 83, will the 83 pump be enough for the newer IFS box or do I even need to bother. I am going to be running at most 36" tires, very light rig. Minimal lift but some just not sure yet. Thanks, all help much appreciated.

The IFS steering box is a very different configuration, you will need to swap this box on if you are converting to cross-over steering. If you are keeping the older stock push-pull steering (not a good idea), then you will have to stick with the original steering box.

The older pump should be able to supply either steering box.

I do intend to use cross over steering, thanks for the info. Glad I don't have to change the pump at least. Will the steering box from a 2 wheel drive work? I should have asked that first but forgot, too much stuff whizzzing around my small brain right now.
