Thank you to @wesintl for referring me to this thread that @Ratpuke started a number of years ago.
I am having the same exact problem with fuel leaking from governor cover that Charla did. I have sourced all of the Toyota gaskets and seals that are available in the US market. I am missing a few.
I'm torn because I am headed out on a 2 week business trip across the American Southwest but I hate damn leaks. The IP originally started weeping and then it became a consistent drip leak. It's quite bad at initial start-up and the first 15-20 minutes of idling (especially when I throttle her up a bit on cold start up)-- 2 to 3 tablespoons worth of diesel on the ground.
Start-ups are not a problem, no smoking, no real issues, except for the leak and I can hear the air sucking in. There is a hissing sound that began at the same time as the leak in question.
For now, I have tried to triage the leak with some Toyota engine FIPG. But that is merely stop gap.
I guess I will need to address this sooner than later--it is after all a 1985 3B. I have a good source provided by @cruiserdan and confirmed by @DanS HJ-45 in ABQ which is where I will be for a few days coming up here soon... I'm tempted to have the professionals deal with it if turnaround could be quickly accomplished.
With the Thanksgiving holidays next week, I doubt that is going to be the case. Everyone is generally in vacation mode--working is the last thing people want to think about and concentrate on.
I'll report back with my findings and developments.
