well i guess i am gonna have to do this cause my dad isnt gonna get around to doing it. he's not to swift on the computer either.

i must say it is a joy working with my dad building this rig... i know later in life these will be some of the times i treasure. and this is something i would like to do with my kids(when i have some). it slows down my process of finishing my fj40 but it all worth it.

so far we stripped out the old worn out 4-cylinder and IFS setup, and will be replacing it with a SBC that is in the work. a solid axle was swapped in with waggoneer springs. we plated the frame and just got done fabricating some motor mounts.

the driveline is a turbo350 attached to dual cases supported by a bud built crossmember.

the rear is welded so we still need a front locker.

we bobbed the bed 14 inches to give it the stubby look.

the whole interior is stripped and a cage and seat craddle are gonna need to be bent up and welded in, along with the majority of everything..

the project has been very fun so far and i am excited to see it going in the future..

any input on the progress will be appreciated.

your build with Dad

Yes Sir , treasure these days of wrenching with your Dad.My son and I still have gearhead sessions when we get together and we both know it is special.Your build looks nice ,bet you can't wait to drive it Heh Heh

i dont like blazer, just there components.

why not buy a blazer instead?

By SBC I can only think major trouble. Im not sure, but I dont think those axles will hold up to 300 horses flowing through those duals. Maybe Im wrong?

well the truck was free... it was my younger brothers before he got paralyzed so thats another reason we are fixing it up, thats why we didnt go with a blazer, and besides i am a toyota fan.

the busted, oil slinging four cylinder would have costed twice what a mildly built 350 costs, and the commonality of sbc parts is great.
its no where near going to be a DD so gas is'nt a problem..
the SBC was free, we already had it..
the turbo350 and both transfercases were free, just had to buy the adapter from marlin and the budbuilt.
this stock 350 only put out like 240 horsepower or less... my FJ cruiser has more horsepower and torque than the old stock sbc.
and i think my dad is planning to run propane which i think makes even less HP and torque.

have you ever removed the rear axle on a minitruck/LC.. they are huge!! for the size of the truck.. and the front has longfields.

i had a cj5 jeep back in the day, when i was in high school and the rear axle broke on me.. when i removed it, i swear it was no bigger around than my thumb.. toyota stuff is quite beefy.

the only issue so far is that the room in the engine bay is short, so a short water pump is needed and a pusher-fan instead. so the heat monster will be a burdon! but we will deal with that when we get to it.

the radiator we bought is as big as we could fit in there. and was 1/3 of the price the toyota stealership quoted for the stock one that was in there.
its a generic be-cool one from JEGS that fabrication will be required. but big deal, i am not a purist, i dont care if its not a yota.

to fit the bell houseing the floor had to be slightly hammered in only at the points, and really was'nt hard.. it looks smooth and turned out better than i thought it would.

ill get some pics.

thats why i said buy a K5. keep the poor yoter a yoter :frown:

Ill sell you my old one :)

If you are lucky you could find a old 4bt Main 350 out of a corvette pushing 370 stock :P

Longs might not be enough, really would consider selectable locker to ensure longevity. It should be a blast to drive. Way TO much power!

in 1971 a corvette stingray had a 2bolt main and like 170 HP, because of the gas crunch.. i guess i should have gotten that one.

and i agree with the selectable locker... i am pushing it to my dad casue he's the purchaser, not me. im just helping him out.
