Pitman arm tie rod hole...Larger than a 40 series TRE?

does the right side TRE have the same width and pitch as the pitman TRE?

New question, I want to use the right side (passenger) TRE for my pitman TRE. Are they the same width and pitch?

Becasue of my tie rod length, the factory pitman TRE is too long. Will the driver's side TRE fit into the pitman arm opening? Or is the pitman opening larger than the other TREs on a 60 series?

If 4x4 labs has an adapter that will work with a 40 series TRE (smae width and pitch as an 80 series). I will go that way.

Thanks for the responses.

THis answered: I am installing an FJ60 steering into my FJ40. I was going to use an extra 80series TRE sine I thought the tappered jole in the pitman would be the same as in a 60 series. Nope. 60 series is wider on my pitman and wider than a 40 series TRE.

Before I go and order a new TRE, can anyone confirm if the tappered hole on the end of a 60 sereis pitman is in fact wider than a 40 and 80 sereis TRE? I ask since the pitman may have been reilled out prior to me getting it.

The second question, do I need to use a left had side TRE with the stablizer hole on the pitman, or will a passenger side TRE fit into the hole on the pitman? I do not need the added length of the stabilizer side TRE.

Thanks.

yes. The 60 TRE is larger than the 40 TRE.

They have the adapter to run the 80 TRE in the 60 pitman arm. It is $6 instead of replacing the TRE.

Either one should fit. You can also get the 60 TRE for the driver side if it would be easier to match up for tubing. I though the 60/80 TRE had the same taper, the 80 end had a larger threaded diameter.

The driver TRE will fit with the insert into the 60 pitman arm. I thought we used another insert on the pass TRE but it's been a year so I would have to track down the truck and check. I think we used the 60 TRE and had Marlin cut and tap a tube for the draglink.

the tre is on the tie rod. that runs between wheels. the ends on the drag link which runs from the pitman to the right wheel is a different width/pitch than the tre's. both ends of the drag link are the same and both ends of the tie rod are the same.

TTT.. Did you use the Fj60 Pass Side Tie rod end with an insert from Luke? Is that what I'm reading.. And that insert into the FJ60 Pass Tie rod end allowed you to use an FJ80 Tie rod end as the relay rod between the pass side and the pitman arm.
I currently have a ton of leftovers sitting awaiting time and the need to stay Spring under and want to utilize 23mm FJ80 ends as the relay rod instead of 21mm. Have a new pitman arm sitting for an 80 end.

THe Taper is too deep in the 60 Pass TRE to accept the 80 end

Ok. I think I found the answer

The relay rod ends on a 60 are larger than an 80 tre, so you can adapt a 60 relay rod end tapered hole to an 80 tre with the cone washer 4x4labs sells, such as when you are doing a high steer and need an 80 tre to fit into the stock 60 pitman arm. You cannot adapt an 80 tre tapered hole to a 60 relay rod end taper unless you ream the hole out to the same pitch, but I can't find the pitch anywhere. I don't know for sure, but I would wager that Paul has an 80 series pitman arm on his 62, which is why he had to cut his to get the 60 relay rod end to fit.

Need to call Luke..

Talk about an old thread....If the question is directed to me, I bought new tie rod end inserts and welded them into metal tubing. Basically made my own rods. It is easier to do it this way then mess around with matching things up. I cannot remember the ID or OD of the tubing I used, but you will know what size to get when yo order the ends.

actually. the taper in the Pass side TRE is what I"m still trying to figure out. Trying to stay Spring Under, utilize 23mm FJ80 ends and utilize FJ60 Pass Side TRE with an FJ80 end inserted into it for a relay rod.
SO I'm not sure I have answered my question or not but will give Luke a call. I think he has a tapered insert that will meet my needs..

ANd yes, I"d rather bring an old thread to life than make a new one..

I have plenty of 23mm bungs LH and RH at the house and 23mm jam nuts LH and RH and FJ80 TRE's LH and RH.. ANd also a Marlin FJ80 pitman arm that will fit 60 steering box
Last piece of the puzzle is getting an 80 end into a 60 pass side TRE so I can utilize all the pieces.
