Definitely not looking for a Hardcore trailer, I want to take the family into the mountains to sight see and explore the ghost towns.

Thanks for the plans.

Don't know what the FJ55 limits are, but with a rebuilt 2F and rebuilt suspension, we have been towing a starcraft 11RT trailer - both to the sierras and down highway 1 in California.

The trailer weighs approx 2500 lbs loaded and tongue weight is about 300 lbs.

Here are pix of the camp trailer and our little military utility trailer.

Hope this helps.

Greg

greg, what are you using for a hitch? do you have a receiver or are you pulling off a bumper hitch? specifically with the camp trailer? that's the size i'm looking to take to moab.

did you get the oem wiring to work with the trailer plug? is it 4 way or seven way? will you just tow my camp trailer from denver to moab and back so i don't have to:D

Towing our trailer

I have the bolt on receiver hitch from man a fre. I think the trailer tongue weight with our stuff loaded is about 300 lbs. The hitch uses the bolt holes that go thru the bumper into the frame member.

I am using the 7 wire loom with electric trailer brakes. The wiring was pretty easy- the oem lights are easy to splice and then you run other wires from the battery through the trailer brake controller. It's worth the money-see below.

After two seasons of towing I have learned the following:

I can count on plenty of people to be angry at me driving up Highway 50 toward Tahoe at 45 mph. Not fast, but steady.

I can count on my family being grumpy and mad at me when I have to turn off the A/C just out of Sacramento when it's 95 degrees outside.

I have disc brakes in front, but am convinced that without electric trailer brakes we would go off some abyss or not stop at the random stop sign or traffic jam.

I installed the following controller:
Valley Odyssey (TM) Electric Trailer Brake Controller - Proportional 52810 : Trailer hitch bike rack and trailer hitches - etrailer.com

Hope this helps. Sorry I can't come out to tow your trailer. I'd love to go to Moab or Denver.:p
