Well, It has begun... I have said I was gana do it, It actually started yesterday... I plan on cutting the back half of the truck off, taking out 15" and welding it back together. It looks like I will either "BOB" the gas tank or make a whole new one from scratch. The depature angle will almost double plus its cool. I didn't have any good before pics so I had to work with what I have. I'm hoping it will like something like the second picture when done... I was very opposed to BOB's until I saw how well done MACE's 60 was. I hate when people chop wagons up and make them into P/U's - Just buy an effing P/U if thats what you want and don't bastardize a 55. Anyway, any suggestions will be helpful...

I agree

Unless the ass end is a total rust bucket, leave it be. That's a badass lookin' rig as it sits

all though, your photo chop does look pretty cool

Looks :smokin: bobbed! I installed a 2 1/2" body lift & am running a mid 90's S10 gas tank which fits perfectly. I also cut the body channel above the stock tank area & reinforced it. You can rotate the S10 tank so it's inlet is on the driver side. I run mine on the pass. side. No advice here on adjoining the rear sheetmetal once it's been cut. I tried it & gave up :meh: Then, I whacked off all that low hanging weight on the rear & replaced w/ tube :bounce2: Hope you have more patience than me on sheetmetal work :bang: Good luck it's great to see more  out there instead of reassembling a stocker

I still think it would look better if you chopped the top. :D J/K Looks sweet dude.

Depends on how and where you wheel. Here in the midwest a roof needs to be replaced by tube or exo-ed or a tree will get it for sure. Once you have tube running the length of your roof line you take altogether different lines in the tight trails.

You can cut a bunch out and leave the stock tank. I've been thinking fuel cell and bobbing back to the wheel wells (4 linked) but I almost never have an issue with the bumper location right at the back of the stock tank.

I also took out the entire back door. If you keep yours and want enough bumper to protect it, you might need to bob some more.

Do it
photo looks rad, truck almost looks too nice to cut tho
I chopped my pig into a two door basterd thing, not done of course
guess i should do a thread on PIGLET
my suggestion would be to section roof as far forward in window as possible; the rear roof curve is difficult to work with

Zulu loves the cock

on the real though, the glass in the back shouldn't be that hard to cut...plus it wouldn't be laminate anyway. Only the windshield glass is laminated typically. Side window and rear glass is safety glass so it can be smashed out easily, but i don't know if toyota used that stuff in the '70s.

Well if you break yours when you try and cut them I'll be taking mine out to cut up my pig in the (hopefully) not to distant future to do the heinous truck thing. And in the later future if I start using my pig more and more for off road than DD then I'll look into shortening everything up a few inches. See you Sunday Josh...

I changed my mind once I started cutting and am going to go with the chevy avalanche look with roll bar and spare tire carrier. I took 12.5 inches out of the bed and am bobbing the gas tank leaving a capacity of 17 Gal. Pictures to come... (LENI! Send me your phone pics)

Dangit, I keep forgeting to get those pics off my phone. call me tonight and I'll do it. I'm gonna bring my camera up to the shop and leave it in my tool box, that'll help get pics.

 Uh oh, get ready to be hammered by the closed minded purists
I'd like to see some new photchopped pics of your
I bobbed mine about ~14". Also didn't think to keep the stock tank due to my 4 link tower on the rear axle. I'm using a 20 gal. Chebby S-10 tank & it fits perfect. I'd be concerned w/ getting the stock tank leak free after welding it back together. The S-10 tank has a built in fuel pump, which is a bonus IMO.
So, what parts of the Avalanche are you going to replicate?
Are you going to keep the rear sheet metal sides or tube it out?
Can't wait for the pics :bounce2:
