I'm interested to see pictures of how folks have mounted a line lock, either electric or manual.

I'm wanting to do discs in the rear of my 60 but don't want to deal with fabbing up an e-brake.

I'm also kind of averse to running brake lines into the cab (I know that kind of negates the mechanical/ ball valve and such, but I'd like to see them anyway).

So where did you mount it? How did you run the wiring? Where did you get your tubing adapters? Any regrets or drawbacks? Would you rather have done a driveshaft brake. Anybody got a good source?

i was thinkn of doing this to my 70 series , until i found out that its illegal on the street !

Show me where a line lock is illegal..

Most states require a separate braking system as a backup, but a line-lock is certainly NOT illegal.

He is in NZ, you know the traffic laws in Kiwi land?

So what do you have Eskimo?

You can place a valve in the floor .. :D naaa serius I'm interested in ideas coz my e-brake setup in eldo caliper are useless .. :frown:

It is amazing how many times I have heard that...

much as I hated to spend the cash I got the driveshaft brake for our 55 from $OR an dit works.........did have to get a very very early fj40 cable from Gary K at Mudrack and do some grinding to get it to fit but have been very happy with it since we have had it on for about 2 weeks.......personally am scared sh**less of a line lock which holds pressure in the system BUT if you loose hydraulics then what?? it happened to me........ouch in a big way :(

I have a summit line lock on my rig. Electric. Runs right off of the master cylinder with a an extra 1ft or two of line. I dont like a lot of extra switches and gauges so I wired it into my rear heater switch. No one knows its there. Works great on the trail, line locked the front to slide the ass end of my truck off ledges and around trees many times.

I wired it so its hot at all times.

Pics, Pics, Pics!

I like the idea of an electric over a ball valve type because I don't want to have to run tons of brakeline into and out of the cab.

I understand the misgivings about losing hydraulic pressure. Just one drop of lost brake fluid (even back into the MC) and your line pressure is zero.

On the other hand I really don't want to spend 250 or 300 on All-Pro's TCase brake (which I'd have to mod to fit the split case anyway).

And echoing Tapage and Mace, I've heard nothing good about getting Eldo calipers to work.

This site: http://www.tperformance.com/street_rod_store/emergency_brakes/ has separate mechanical calipers and rotors, I guess I could fab a bracket myself for cheaper than the all-pro solution.

If you get an electric one, don't cheap out, as some of them get hot and won't hold after a few minutes of use.

fact..

Yup, like I said, not illegal. :flipoff2:

Anyway, I've got a ball-valve inline, just downstream of the proportioning valve.. I reach under the seat and can actuate it.

Good call, you knew that before you looked it up?

Anyway... So you ran your rear brakeline into the cab and put the proportioning valve and ball valve? Probably pretty easy on a crawler/buggy?

Keep in mind this is going in a DD 60.

Thanks for the tip on the electric!

well the brake line has to go to the back of the rig on a frame rail, i THINK it would be on the drivers side (keeping in mind im thousands of miles from my rig so i cant look) it shouldnt be all that hard to plumb the line in like just under your door or something no?

It means some searchin in MUD was requires before buy calipers .. ( next time ! )

No, I looked it up before I posted JUST to make sure, but I was already 99% sure it was just another one of those bits of misinformation... "You can't use a linelock as an emergency brake" gets turned into "Linelocks are illegal"

Yeah, running the lines is cake in my buggy, but I've seen it done on full-bodied-rigs before.. only the knob is inside, the actual valve is outside, you just made the brake line take a little detour.. :) Yeah, it's gonna be tight and a PITA with the exhaust and all, but if ya want it bad enough...

You're welcome on the electric. Nothing worse than something you're trusting fails.

Hmmm, I'll have to spend some quality time under the rig, thinking real hard!

And I have yet to see photos!

Dang 60's. Brakelines run from the MC, across the firewall and then down the passenger side of the frame rail. Looks like an electric lock for me, I'll probably need a DS brake too.
