Seeing this post https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/smart-phone-holder-idea.769491/ I tried getting one made , but never heard back. I then contacted a mud vendor bhicks @ http://www.bh3dprinting.com/ and he did me a great job. It fits pretty much every phone I could find except the new Iphone 6 plus. Your charging cord comes in from the bottom to help stabilize it We did some wheeling yesterday and the phone stay right in it without a problem. Here are a couple pictures with my Iphone in a otterbox and my Brides S5 Galaxy. I really like this holder as it turned my useless drink holder into a very useful phone holder, no more looking down to see my phone it is right there in the perfect spot

It looks good and I'm super happy that you like it, but you didn't install it properly. If you look closely there is a recessed lip right at the top of the part that sticks down into the cup holder hole. That disc part that sticks down has a 1 degree taper. The further you push the insert down into the hole the tighter it gets. You need to push it further until it "clicks" into place. It will get really snug until it clicks and then will spin freely. I wanted it to spin freely to allow the driver to turn the phone easily to the desired angle BUT be very secure. Use a little force and push it in all the way. You your finger to pinch it in and not just push down on it. I don't want you to crack the slide out tray. You will be much happier once properly seated.

I should ask, is there interest in me making these? I got most of the requests for these from the 4Runner guys who had the pull out insert cup holders as standard issue (in the double form) for quite a few years. I plan to release a small line of 4runner products this summer and I plan to release this at the same time. That would probably be late July to early August. I had not intended to sell these to the 80 series guys (although as you can see they do fit) but if the interest is there, I could definitely release these sooner.
 
You are correct I snapped it in place and presto! What was great got even better
 
Most of us dont have the useless cup holder. We have the useless cubby.
 
I would be interested. Was thinking of creating something but this is far better than anything I could come up with. Any feel for a price point?
 
I would be down for one for sure (iphone 6), as I prop mine in there without this cool little snuggie. I assume it just squishes that small rubber part down and out of the way (kind of like a cup does; or do you lose that rubber tongue altogether?)

Price point will be around $20. Maybe a tad more. I have to sit down and crunch the numbers to be sure.

The little foam rubber thing on the back of the tray just pushes out of the way. It is not removed nor does it need to be removed. It doesn't interfere with anything.
 
About $20 was the price point I was expecting. If you offer them I will buy and expand my BHicks collection!
 
I just lay my 5s in the holder flat (back of phone pointing to the roof) and snug it back towards the dash. Stays put without issue. I suppose if you really want to see the screen that a holder of this style would be helpful, but...

If I can get 5 to 10 guys that want these then I will go ahead and get a batch made and up on the site. If not, you guys will just have to wait until I release them with the 4Runner stuff.

So here are some pics of the final prototype. This one is a tad rougher than the one I sent McDowra. I should have taken pics of that one. This one was printed at higher speeds and thicker layers. The final product will be a little smoother but you can at least see the details. I need at least 5 folks who want one before I commit to a batch. If not then I will just release these near the end of summer with the 4Runner stuff like i mentioned earlier.




 
I'm going to assume by the lack of responses to this thread that these aren't going to be a big seller in the 80 crowd. No worries, it's the 4Runner guys that seem to want them. If you were one of the few that wanted one, just be patient. I will be releasing them for $20 sometime in late July with the other 4Runner stuff.
 
I will be releasing these on my site late this month. I have the 4Runner cup holders, LX470 TEQ badge, and the 03-07 100 series TEQ badge being released this week. Once I get through the first big wave of those orders then the phone holder will be released.

cool, i just ordered some of your cup holders recently so I've got something to tinker with in the meantime.
 
I know there is now way to properly secure it, but I think for more pick-up on the product, something that would fit into the stock cubby that would hold the phone would have been it. Negates having to buy the cup holder....
