************STEERING CONVERSION******************
After reading thru all (I mean ALL) the posts on PS conversions, I think I'm going to side with the FJ60 system. Seems the most flexible if larger tires are added and the best to repair/replace in the future. (Tuckers idea of the JTO bracket may be better though as the late model GB's are readily available. (Dang it's hard to decide!!!!!(
I have access thru work right now to a 3500 sqft metal shop so better hit it while I am still employed there.
To recap-I have a '69 FJ55 with a stock steering system. Awesome F2 motor. I am a "light" off roader and may upsize the wheels down the road, but right now have 31's all around.
So here is my plan of attack. Tell me if I am on track or out in left field as usual.
First gather parts.
1) Order a Refirb FJ60 steering box. (4 point base) OR....
Go with Tuckers Nice Bracket Idea Above and use a late model Toy mini GB)
2) Design a brace (1/4") for both sides of the frame to hold the new box
3) Order a power steering pump. (FJ60 as well if other Toyota's used the same fittings, then a Toy mini)
4) Order (well measure first) hydraulic hoses from Napa with a 2600psi rating
5) Ford towers as mentioned above. (If not then the RL bracket)
6) Cut a notch in the fender well to make room for everything
7) Lengthen the steering arm below the rag joint. (custom shaft if the new GB won't mate up)
8) 1/2" high grade bolts (4) for the GB mount. (MasterCar)
Great ideas from some great previous posts on here too. (Do a Google search above and everything is there on other mods)
My other post with a ton of great info from Tucker74-89GASHOG...

So now I am boiling everything down... And yeah still a hundred different ways to go, but sticking with Toyota stuff.
