I'm not so sure a Coleman Extreme or the others in that youtube video would have survived as long as they did if the temps were in the 100's.

You probably designed something that works almost as well, just not as convenient.

good point, I wonder what the temps were in that video. But yeah, either way, I don't think it would be worth the inconvenience if the cooler only works "as well" as the coleman cooler. If it were incredible then it would be worth it.

It was pretty heavy. I decided to ditch the idea, it wasn't worth the hassle. That, and I found a 60qt norcold on Craigslist for 275 and decided to just get the darn thing. I sold the old coleman and trying to sell the pelican now.

I'd use rigid foam, less chance it would compress and lose it's insulating value. If you scout around you could probably find some that was used for packing material. If not it looks like you can pick up a sheet at HD for $8

I generally keep a moving blanket over my coolers. I get them cheap at Harbor freight.

It is amazing how much this helps keep ice.

Had more groceries than my 50L Waeco could hold for our recent DV explore so I took your advice Rusty and wrapped a soft sided collapsible style cooler with a couple mover's blankets I had laying around...and the ice lasted for 4-days in hot DV temps!

Thanks for the idea Rusty
