Most likely I will be accepting a job in Pascagoula, MS working in the Northrupp Grumman Shipyard. Do y'all have any advice on housing down there? I'm looking to rent at first and if I like the job then I would buy a house. That wouldn't happen for at least a year.

Thanks for any help!

I am from Pascagoula originally but have not lived there since I graduated high school in 96. Furthermore, I haven't lived there since Katrina happened. I would assume that the places I could recommend from my recollection have likely changed.

I would be happy to ask around if you want on areas to rent and possibly friends who have places available to rent. Just let me know...

i'm not sure how Alabama insurance is these days, but south MS home owners will punch you in the balls. My insurance in Gulfport was 4x's what my insurance in Jackson is on twice the house. Goula is probably not where I'd choose to live. Look at Ocean Springs. If I were going to be on that end of the coast, that is where I'd want to be.

Thanks tcb! Ocean Springs seems to have some decent rental housing from what I have found. Yeah insurance below I-10 in Alabama is outrageous. I'd probably try to buy as far away from the coast as possible if/when I buy. Is there really anything much north of I-10 in the way of towns and stuff worth living in?

depends on how much you like the country or how far a drive you mind making... I could live in Vancleave, but I have no problem with trailers and meth labs.. You probably want to stay out of Moss Point. Escatawpa is up there somewhere, but I can't say that I've actually been there or ever met anybody from there. There aren't a whole lot of options on that end of the coast. Vancleave is probably your best bet for north of I-10.. You'd probably be just as close to work staying on the Alabama side of the line vs OS or Vancleave, though.. something to consider.

I am in Ocean Springs, are you looking to rent a house or apartment?

I'm looking to rent a house. I have a black lab I would like to keep in a fence outside. I know that limits my choices, but that is what I would like. I've seen a few duplexes New Orleans style 3/2s for rent and a couple of other houses. I am going to try to get over there one weekend and look around to see what is available.

That's Orleans Place probably, if so its just about 1/4 mile from me. They are still building them but there are many units up and I think available.
