I am looking forward to going as well.

Packed wool socks, winter bag, club hoodie. Not pictured, bourbon to make it all warmer. 😁

Hopefully the wind will allow a good fire. Bring a chair and some wood.

What's the plan for tomorrow? Can you send coords to meet up? I just can't get it together today to be on time at AVO but depending on the plan, I could meet tomorrow.

Few more! Wind was awful. Including wind chill it was in the 20's Friday nite, and there was a search and rescue in progress the entire time we was there!

Pic dump! I had a great time. We ran down the mountain Saturday morning to look for more firewood and it took us all day to get back to camp. The authorities shut down the parkway near BB during the search and rescue that was still going on, and the leaf-lookers were out in forces I've never seen before. They parked where ever they pleased on the road up to the parking lot and I guess that freaked out the S&R guys enough to just shut everything down. We had to wait until sundown to get back up there. Despite all that we had a fantastic time driving around Brevard. I think we logged around 165 miles that day.

While we were driving around, I thought we'd try to contact the other UC'ers we knew might be heading into a clusterf***. Got ahold of @Trollhole and @jvalex and eventually @ceby. As soon as we got a good signal we hatched a plan to meet Jess and Drew somewhere in Brevard and then Chris & fam joined us. We had already made a sandwich at one of the overlooks off 215, so we decided a beer stop was a good place. Ended up at the Hub which was a pleasant hangout. They had last call at 5 or so, so we gabbed a little more in the parking lot and decided to head up 276 to get back on the parkway and watch the sunset. Once we started seeing cars come down the mountain on the parkway we figured we'd be safe to head back up and that worked as planned.

Got to camp right as the last of the light was shimmering over the mountain peaks. The wind was unrelenting and whipped around the fire we built up with the new supply of fuel from our morning mission and Jess's stash that she brought up.

The next morning we were up and moving around 8-ish, cooked up some hashbrown patties with melted cheese on them and packed up our gear. I drowned out the firepit and packed some of the leftover firewood and we headed back to town around 10:30.

How much wood was left?? Y'all know I love ya if I bring you my firewood. My buddy was loading it and questioned the amount. Never too much for y'all.

Two bundles I bought were still wrapped. I took one wrapped bundle. Bryan and Carter got the rest. Bryan said he's probably going to hang onto it for the next group outing.

Looks like the missing hiker search didn't start until Friday, based on the way this article reads. Pretty tragic event all around. He's a former marine with known mental health issues.
