I'm going to be installing my new Pioneer Avic-d2 head unit soon but I'm making sure I understand all parts of the install first. I am going to have to splice into what the manual calls the power supply side of the parking break switch. This is due to the navigation lockout, which requires the driver to pull the parking brake so that they can change navigation details. I just want to know what wire I need to connect to and where is it? Any ideas?

I've also been looking around to find a bypass for this feature so that I can change things while I drive but so far I've only found bypasses for other Pioneer units. I did find that the avic-d1 unit and the d2, which I have, have the same wiring harness, which leads me to wonder if the d2 and the d1 use the same bypass method, but so far I've found that that might not be the case.

The parking brake switch is the neg lead that runs to your parking brake lamp. It grounds itself and completes the circuit when you pull up the parking brake. This is how it works on most cars. If you want the navigation or DVD feature while driving simply ground the wire to a chassis ground (I think this works on Pioneer.) The other option is to wire that lead to a toggle switch to mock the parking brake ground.

I'd do just as mooker described and just ground it full time.

Yea I've heard you could do that, but I asked the same thing on another forum and the guy said that the gyro inside of the unit would tell it that the car was moving. It has a gyro for the info screen where it will give you info about your driving, but I'm skeptical if it is hooked up to the nav. lockout feature. I wouldn't mind just trying it at least though. Would there be the possibility though the whole unit would lockout or something if I messed with the wiring the wrong way?
