Has anyone ever had a problem with the return spring tension on the Parking Brake handle button? My hand brake will not stay up unless I pull out on the button to help it along and engage the ratchet. Doesn't really look serviceable, but I think the complete assembly is not that expensive. How much trouble to remove the center console and get it out?

Viagra? :rimshot:

Console: a lot of trouble. The coolbox makes it a pain in the ass.

I'd guess something along the lines of a frapuccino got in there and is sticking it up.. maybe try to find a way to catch the runoff and flush it out? Or see whether the button unscrews and gives you more access to get in there and see what's going on? An interference fit of tight metal threads into plastic isn't uncommon for toyota on stuff like this.

That's what I was worried about...looks like a major job to get to. I tried unscrewing the button, but I didn't want to force it too much. I guess I will try to think of a way of flushing it without making a huge mess. It still works and holds tight when I engage it manually by pulling it out. It sucks that I can't rely on it though.

The button isn't available separate so yeah be careful with it. I'd maybe try wrapping some leather around it to protect and use pliers. Or if you can find a really tiny strap wrench..
