I was thinking of one of these to attach to the side of my M101 trailer. The side of the trailer is only 6' long. Is this enough area to attach the awning?
Wouldn't that be kind of low?
It's designed to attach to the top of an SUV

They are priced competitive to Cabelas in dang near everything.

All of those niceties are built in to REI's exorbitant prices.

I love going to REI and I love looking but if I buy, I just accept that it will generally be top dollar.

You can return things the same way at Costco but you generally pay much, much less. However, they don't always have what you want.

Can't win them all.

My wife does not call me when she runs across deals at Costco.

I was going to fab an attachment point kinda like this?
Cool detachable awning mountawning.webp

I was just at REI in Saratoga yesterday, they had the Kelty shade awning on display. The thing is big, looks cool, good shelter. But I could see how it could be a problem in the wind.Just like a big sail,it would catch the wind good!
FYI,everything in the store is 20% off w/that coupon from the flyer(single purchases) If you want to buy more things get another flyer(big stack in the front of store)& get in line again(yes there was a LINE of poeple at that store).Poeple were buying all kinds of stuff. The sale is going on till the 10th or 11th. of this month.

I find Cabellas and Sportsman's Warehouse to be a lot lower on clothing prices.

OIC, that would work.

My only experience with my awning has been practicing the set up process and tear down. My large deluxe model has the same weakness in the area you speak of. I haven't experienced any tears yet but I did notice the seams/threads are spreading a bit in that area. The only reinforcement I've made is I threw a whole bunch of seam sealer in that area. I also notice the actual awning material is very thin so be very careful when setting it up on the ground. My 2 1/2 year old walked across it while I was setting it up and created a tear because a little pebble was underneathe where he stepped on it.

I'm getting ready to use mine for the first time in Utah...Wooo...hooo!

Yeah, this is a cool item, I got mine on the Costco deal :bounce:

It is really well made and for the price I got it for... it was a no brain-er! :D

anyone know if costco still has these for sale before I drive for 40 minutes to pick one up?

Just to throw a little salt in the wounds I set my $60 Costco Carport up today while I was detailing the 100 interior. It did a good job of keeping the sunny side of the truck cool. Then I set it up off the back. I could be happy sleeping in the 100 with the awning set low off the back as long as there weren't any flying critter issues.

Then for grins I pulled the FJ40 out and attached the awning to the roll cage, it works great. It will probably replace my back packing tent for spring/fall trips. It would have been perfect last September on the Rubicon.
