Idea. We should volunteer one year to get a better idea of what is going on. Run the course on our own time after the event. Then give it a go next year. April is F'n crazy for me this year. With enough heads up I should be able to make next years.

Awesome. I'll see if I can get more info and maybe get in touch with one of the guys that ran it last year.

More info...

Hey Sam!

I would encourage you to message someone on the overland guild forum. The usernames trailfrog and iflypropjobs are two people who will give you excellent answers.

Camping is primitive, with each team finding a campsite each night. I list a few on the final handouts. The forest service has campgrounds dispersed throughout the forest but only two or three line up well with the rally. Those would be Longpool and Redding, Haw Creek Falls does as well but last I saw it was closed indefinitely. These will cost money but have a shower and bathrooms if that is a deciding factor. There is no guarantee they'll be available, the tourist season starts about the same time frame. They may do reservations but I am not positive.

The trail is what you make of it - I provide a basic outline via my checkpoint placement (the pattern is visible when zoomed out), but you have to fill in the 'blanks' between checkpoints. Difficulty ranges from a simple fire road to a difficult, body damage inflicting trail. You'll be the one to choose though, as your the one routing yourself and choosing your checkpoints. 10 checkpoints are required and then you'll choose 5 of the 10 remaining. That is explained in further detail on the website.

Terrain varies. Expect for rocky soil, loose hill climbs, some mud (most have social go arounds), and some technical creeks. I have a few YouTube videos that should give you enough information. Here is the first:

That is correct it is full for this year. It took about a month; so next year whoever is interested lets do this thing.

If we had a copy of there course map is there any reason we couldn't run this thing some other time in April ? I'd like to go this year.

Ok, I did a little more research on this. The locals call it the High Water Route of the Ozark National Forest. It is open all year. I am assuming they run it in April because the rains would make the trail that much more difficult. So if you guys are interested and want to put together a group we could do it anytime of year. Though I imagine Arkansas is hot as balls in the summer months !

It's about a 6 hour drive for me. My April and May are full. I could do June. I know it will be hot as balls :)

..... June. I know it will be hot as balls :)
I have visited Hot Springs in mid June. Temps were not to bad. Around 80-85 iirc. I'd suggest a run over a three day weekend, late summer, early to mid fall. I realize TAC heads to Tuttle in OCT so that will be an event to consider.
