Hey Sam!
I would encourage you to message someone on the overland guild forum. The usernames trailfrog and iflypropjobs are two people who will give you excellent answers.
Camping is primitive, with each team finding a campsite each night. I list a few on the final handouts. The forest service has campgrounds dispersed throughout the forest but only two or three line up well with the rally. Those would be Longpool and Redding, Haw Creek Falls does as well but last I saw it was closed indefinitely. These will cost money but have a shower and bathrooms if that is a deciding factor. There is no guarantee they'll be available, the tourist season starts about the same time frame. They may do reservations but I am not positive.
The trail is what you make of it - I provide a basic outline via my checkpoint placement (the pattern is visible when zoomed out), but you have to fill in the 'blanks' between checkpoints. Difficulty ranges from a simple fire road to a difficult, body damage inflicting trail. You'll be the one to choose though, as your the one routing yourself and choosing your checkpoints. 10 checkpoints are required and then you'll choose 5 of the 10 remaining. That is explained in further detail on the website.
Terrain varies. Expect for rocky soil, loose hill climbs, some mud (most have social go arounds), and some technical creeks. I have a few YouTube videos that should give you enough information. Here is the first:
