I have a 93' 4runner w/ the V6 and modified exhaust . my modified exhaust is throwing bad messages through my oxygen sensor, i have been told to try sodering the wires to the O2 sensor together to trick the computer into thinking the O2 sensor is fine. theres a problem with this method, i have 4 wires. so, if anyone has done this then which wires do i soder together and does this method actually work?

Kyle, I am a product specialist with Walker Products, a manufacturer and worldwide distributor of oxygen sensors. I would certainly agree with these gentlemen. Whatever benefits you are getting through your modified exhaust, trying to cut out the O2 would certainly cancel them out. Reduced performance, poor gas mileage, and a possible electrical short would be among the downfalls of this method.

Since you indicated you have a 4-wire oxygen sensor, this would mean it is a 'heated' sensor, ie: a sensor which doesn't need to be close to the head to be heated.

I would start by checking:
1) That its a factory Denso O2 sensor (Bosch sensors can throw that code),
2) the extended wiring is not shorting out

Also check for a "Lazy Sensor". The voltage should IIRC bounce a minimum of 7-8 times a second. A digital fluke meter w/ record mode works best for this.
