Looks good Nick, send the pictures to me at 1960fj25 at sbcglobal.net and I'll post them, or host them somewhere else and link to them so we can see all the detail.

FJ 25 in Peru

Mine is a 1960 FJ25 hardtop
Found in a garage, waiting for restoration. The body is in good conditions, missing the engine and tranny.

Is that top original?

Looks to be an original top with the addition of the rear quarter glass not found in US spec 25/early 40 HT....Banderante? Looks like fuel tank was moved from under seat to the rear....and Patrol style wheels, though the front one looks pretty wide, split rim?....Bandy apron lights?

Cool find Peter...more pics! is the data tag in Spanish?

I guess so.

It came with the truck and the PO didnt did much work on it, besides changing the engine and the tranny.

Most of the interior parts are gone as well as the original seats, but I believe the top is original. Do you ask because of the rounded windows in the back?

yes in the corners. The top on my 25 is from a 65 fj40 as far as i know, and looks exactly the same with the lines in the sides and everything, but there are no corner windows.

Is the rear window foldable?
In this it is. It goes up and kind of folds in two.
Here in Peru there are not as many tops available to make swaps, and I guess it's another version. My vin number is much higher than those in the states, so this may be the cause.

Yes its a bifold door.

I've seen advertisement from South America with the FJ25 grill and rounded wheels that was from the 62/63 time frame. The switch to the FJ40 I think happened later for the vehicles made in South America. Just like the Banderante was being made until a couple of years ago while the 40 series was dropped in the rest of the world during the eighties and have seen people post on mud that say the 80 series is still available in their part of the world. If I remember I will check my titles tonight for the highest FJ25 VIN # I have. I have an FJ40 VIN plate from 1964 and it still has the number in front of FJ but my 65 FJ45 doesn't. So sometime between 64 and 65 Toyota dropped the year mark on the vehicles coming to the US. Does this one have a number in the start of the VIN #? Do you have a title for this 25? Does the VIN plate have a year stamped on it?

The top looks earlier than 65. In the US the high door pillar ended in 1963, after that the top pieces would interchange. If the top was from a later model it would have been easier to cut the pillar off than to modify the top piece. If you look at pictures of Landcruiser Steve's 25 you will notice the pillars have been cut off. The back door was same in the US until sometime in 1965 when the top design chanced to the bigger side windows. The later tops are shorter at the top. The back angle in just a little making it shorter. This later top is the first time the back corner windows showed up in 40 series in the US. I think the FJ45 short bed pickup changed to the removable top with corner windows in 1964. We would like to see a better picture of the corner window opening. Look like it is factory from would I can tell. Probably just another thing we didn't get in the US. If you want to ship the top's side piece to me I will ship non non corner widows pieces. But serious how tall is the corner glass opening. The reason I ask is the FJ45 corner glass is shorter than the FJ40 corner glass. As fas as I know the FJ45s got the corner windows first. It looks like your has the shorter window to match the smaller side windows. So if you want to replace them you may need to get the one for the FJ45. Still available in the US the last time I checked. I bought spares for my FJ45 just after I bought it ten years ago figuring that since there are so few 45 left in the US Toyota would discontinue them. Of course I was wrong. But it was only around $100 for weatherstriping and glass for both sides so I would do it again.

What is a 1960 FJ60 FF H55F? FJ60 = 60 series FF = full floater H55F = five speed. But I know the 60 series didn't start until 1981 model year. I guessing you have a 60 series but not a 1960 Looks like you have a nice collection of cruisers. I would say you have to many but that would be the pot calling the kettle black.

Nice cruiser Peter, do those mudflaps look original to you? Could you post a couple photo's of them for us? Thanks, John#3

A mistake
I own a 1984 FJ60 FF H55F

I couldn't attach more pictures so I put them on yahoo.

The vin on the FJ 25 starts with a 0, so I guess it is a 1960. I dont know the exact year on that top, maybe you can show some light on it.
As I told the PO didn't did much work on it, and installed all kind of stuff, including a J**p steering wheel, and took the engine and tranny and swap it for a chevy engine. Other mods made where the spare tire holder, the rear window and door, and those ugly looking wheels, and I guess also the mudflaps.

I know this is a big project, because many parts are missing, but here we have many parts and lots of cruisers.
Right now I am finishing a complete resto project on the FJ40, and the next will be the FJ25, so I am beginning to search for the parts, but I am thinking on buying another 25 with a bad body and take all the mechanical parts I am missing
The price I paid, considering the condition of the body ( 350$ ) made it a deal.
Too many cruisers? No way.

Peter

The plate on the frame says 1960 for the prduction date, and it is in Spanish. Right now it is hard to reach it and take a picture, but I will do it in a couple of days.
The complete vin is 0 FJ25 - 21166

You have some nice cruisers there. I wish we had back doors instead of just tailgate and hatch available on our 55 and 60 series cruiser in the US. The internet has sure shows us in the US how many options they never imported to the US. I wish I could find a FJ25 in that condition for $350 around here. Finding another 25 with all the running gear is the way to go. I guess 25s are earier find in other parts of the world, having just over two hunderd imported to a country the size of the US over forty-five years ago make it hard to find parts. I think in South America Toyota got alot quicker start than in the US. Alot of hard feelings towards Japan after WWII didn't help.

Looking at the pictures of the top I'm sure it isn't original rear corner windows. Some one went to a lot of work to work metal so the windows would sit flush. That looks like a factory stamped hole to me. The back window is the same one that came with the FJ25 hard top models. You probably have more 45s in Peru than we have in the Us so the windows shouldn't be a problem. The opening looks to short for the FJ40 corner windows I'm guessing the FJ45 will fit. If your worried about not being original ship them here and I ship you non window pieces. In the US any tire carrier thru 1974 model would work on your 25 but the earlier the closer it will be to orginal.
