Apologies for adding a new thread on this topic, but I cannot find (or understand) in prior threads how to understand the various wires. I’ve ordered the OEM dome light (in transit). I’m hoping it connects to the white connector (see video). I need help understanding (1) if that’s correct and (2) what to do with the other wires. Assuming white wire/connector will couple with dome light, can I cut/cap all other wire without damaging my electrical system?

Thanks!

Adding a pic of your current DVD player (before removal) would help. I suspect that you have an aftermarket (not port-installed) DVD player based on that wiring but hard to tell for sure. A few notes from my recent experience with this:

-Many 100s got port-installed DVD players. This involved replacing the cubby by the passenger side 3rd row with a DVD player, routing wiring, cutting a hole in the headliner, and installing the drop-down screen. The port-installed player system has a Toyota part number and looks factory, but if you punch your VIN into Partsouq you'll notice your vehicle wasn't built with this system. This guide shows the port installation steps: https://toyotaparts.sparkstoyota.com/install/PT296-6002D-XXinst.pdf. Unfortunately, the cut headliner precludes reinstalling a non-DVD dome light without adding some sort of backing, at least in my experience.

-To avoid trying to rig up a backing plate for the non-DVD dome light and to take advantage of the space for sunglasses or other small items, @LJE created a replacement trim piece. This post and others within this thread show it: Lumberjack Engineering: 3D Printed (and beyond!) solutions for the 100 Series Platform. - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/lumberjack-engineering-3d-printed-and-beyond-solutions-for-the-100-series-platform.1357419/post-15877306

-When I pulled out my 3rd row DVD player, I replaced it with an OEM cubby to regain some storage space and to avoid a potential source of parasitic draw. You can punch your VIN into Partsouq to grab the right part number for your vehicle. Here's a post showing the DVD player and its replacement cubby: What have you done to your 100 Series this week? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-100-series-this-week.609679/post-16042696

-Some 100-series had completely aftermarket DVD players; the extent of headliner cutting, wiring approach used, etc. may vary. Hence posting what's installed may be helpful.

I appreciate the thorough response. I have a plan for covering the cutout headliner etc. I just want to make sure I don’t mess up the wiring. I had an Audiovox (after market) dvd (pic attached).

Well, it happened. I snipped the extraneous wires back and now the new done light doesn’t work and the front seat map lights don’t work. Any and all suggestions welcome.

Did you get this figured out? Could you post some info on what you used for a replacement dome light?

Turns out I just shorted a fuse. I suspect wires touched in the capping process. Replaced the fuse and all good. I'll try to take some pics and post. I still need to repair the gaping whole in the headliner, but I have thoughts about that. I replaced with an OEM dome:

I'm attempting this project and need some advice on how to hook up the replacement dome light. It has the female connector. Anyone know the PN for the male side? It doesn't seem to be shown in the relevant partsouq diagram. 2000 LX470. Also, can someone confirm the wires shown in my second photo are the correct ones for the light? White/black, white/green and red. They come in from the driver side (other wires come from passenger) and are attached to the roof member so I'm assuming they're the ones. Any advice on the electrical part of this project would be much appreciated; its slightly over my head. Thanks.

I think I have a plan for the big ugly hole, going to try the cheap cutting board method.
